No one has the skills to do anything before they try and learn. There are numerous threads on this site about service model grip chops and when a Dremel and some patience, you can make it look like it was a factory job.

Or get the service model and call the SA custom shop and see they'll do the job for you.

When my dept was researching a new service pistol, they originally settled on the XD40, they ordered the guns and literally the next day the 45 came out. So they cancelled the 40 and went with the 45. The dept had asked about a 45 and was told it wasnt coming out.... then after the fact Springfield said they were not allowed to say the 45 was on its way, they had to keep it hushed. So you never know what may come out, Springfield may still introduce the xd9c

One more thought, kinda of topic, I think Glock and Springfield have really missed the mark on a good compact 45. Glock has the 30 and the 36 which both have their pro's and cons. Glock also put all this r+d into making the GAP models which have pretty much been a dive. Springfield came out with the XD45 in a compact, but the slide is still the full length slide. I think that a decent compact 45 has yet to come out from either company. The first one that does come out with one will def have an order from me.

When I was looking for my 1st handgun back in 2006, I distinctly remember that the XD Service Models were called COMPACT models.

I don't recall that. However, many of the gun stores around me call the Service models "Compact" in their ads.

I have heard guys and shops refer to the Service as "Compact", but I have never heard SA use that language.

I am still hoping the XD-9C will become a reality. I think it will, just don't know when.

Please tell me more. I read a review on Gunblast I believe; I hadn't thought about S& W before that. I think I would trust a review from an XD fan here more than a rave on the S&W forum.

My subcompact 9mm choices, fwiw, are XD9 SC; Glock 26; and M&P Compact.

I like, in theory, the magazine design on the S&W (double stack with the top set up for pure single round delivery angle) and of course S&W quality is top notch. I have doubts about their automatic design, though, since the M&P is their third or fourth attempt to come up with a really popular sem-auto, as opposed to another "me too" or glitchy gun.

the only issue I have with S&W is the politcal B.S. they did a few years back. When it comes to supporting the Second Amendment they sure are lacking!!

The xd 9/40 receiver and the 45ACP receiver are not interchangeable.
