Got a new hornady press

Well I was debating on what press to get. the Dillon 650 or the hornady lock and load. went with the hornady.

still getting it set up and making the needed adjustments.

Ran in to one problem so far with the powder through expander die. It wont bell the casing enough to put a lead bullet in.

Called hornady. They want me to send the expander to them and they are going to machine it so it works. so I'm waiting on that before I make any live rounds.

The case feeder is awesome.I toped it off with a redding competition pro series die set. very nice dies.

The press buy it self is 30 pounds very well built. And the ram is huge

Here are some pics

Nice. I got one of these too, without the case feeder, but am waiting until after Christmas to get all the rest of the stuff I need. I have no experience reloading so it will be interesting.

Just curious since I am toying with the idea of getting a Dillon 550 .... why the Hornady over the Dillon?

the cost was a big factor. $316 for the press - $180 worth of free
bullets =$136 + case feeder$245 = $381

The dillon 550 would cost $ 600 with case feeder
caliber changes are cheaper also on the hornady

And I have read that some owners that have both prefer the hornady

Take a look at this. The guy took his site down, but archive.org has a cached version.

I bought my Hornady L-N-L about a month or so ago, and I love it!! I didn't get the case feeder though....too much for my pockets. All I load is cast lead bullets in all my handgun caliber and I have no problem with the case expander. I use the Lee Carbide dies and they have served me well.

Good luck on the reloading & enjoy the press, it really is a nicely designed piece of machinery!!
