Ishpeck's on to something there.

I would perhaps add:

....because I enjoy grovelling before some petty, overfed, overpaid, self-important, narcissistic, power hungry gov't beaureuacrat for their permission to exercise my right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, as well as my Constitutionally guaranteed Second Amendment rights.

The whole "may issue" thing sickens me, not to mention that we even submit to de facto registration, like in Kalifornia. Was there for a week recently. It was the ONLY time I've been without a sidearm since I got my Texas CHL. I was NOT a happy camper. Had two knives, flashlight and a sturdy metal barrel writing pen, though as a defensive set-up.

That being said, the simplest answer could be: (as to WHY you "need" your permit):

Because I want myself and my family members to live if confronted with a deadly threat.

OR

Because US courts have proven that the police have NO DUTY to protect any individual, only the public at large. So if you have any body guards paid for with my tax dollars, that are available, and not tied up guarding state senators, judges, etc., please send one my way (esp. if he has a MP5 full-auto) and I'll withdraw this application.

OR

Because I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

OR

...you get the picture.

Here it is.

I wish to obtain my ccw for self protection and protection of my family. I have never been threatened, but want to be protected if anything in which protections is needed arises. I live about 20 miles from the nearest station, which means it will take about 15 to 20 min. for an officer to get to me. I also am ex-military nuclear security, which i believe if someone wants information in that area it puts myself and my family at risk.

Is there a reason why you have to stay in CA? There are many surrounding or nearby states with freedoms that CA doesn't trust you with.

I moved out of that hell hole almost 20 years ago, and I just haven't felt the need to look back.

If I really wanted to carry concealed in CA, I would, and when I need to travel there and haven't taken a plane, I do. It's often easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission. I'd find the best way to carry deeply concealed, and be careful. Even with a permit where I live, this is still daily SOP.

Wow. Was it something in the water?

How far is, say, Portland, OR, from where her family is on a plane? Why can't the whole family move to a better place? I was lucky, my whole family wanted to get the hell out of CA, and I understand that not everyone wants to leave a place they are familiar with, but sometimes you have to make choices to live the way you want to. If you stay in CA so one person can be close to their family, than you may just have to resign yourself to not having some of the things you want in life. Like the ability to control more of your own destiny.

No, it was stupid doctors that spent a year misdiagnosing her. I could have sued and been rich, but she wouldn't let me do it.

Move to Arizona, $130 and 7 days later you're ccw! Close to drive and CCW while driving! 5 hours from So Cal (1 flying) and 10 hours from Nor Cal (2 flying)! We also have the top heart doctors and pediatric centers in the country!
