Sorry (Un)Lucky7,

After living in CT for the first 13 years of life and the following 20 in FL I moved west (but not TOO far west) to where people got more common sense about guns. Gotta love Arizona!

Florida's better than most states though. I like living here, gun law wise. Too bad I hate the weather and love the cold, so I'm moving to Kentucky in January or February and coming back during the summer (yeah, the worst time of the year to come back, lol) to do police school.

I'd be leary of a new 2004 XD still at a dealer. I definitly would not be paying 519 for it since its a good chance its pre Melonite as Grip mentioned.Hey Lucky what part of NJ do you live in and where are you getting your guns? Send me a PM, maybe my shop can get you better price.

Yes, it is pre-Melonite finish as stated by customer service at SA. June '04 manufacture date. Waiting to hear back from SA to see how much refinish would cost. However, with Trijicon/Heinie night sights if the finish is the only problem I believe 519 is not bad. I have found XDs for $455, but after shipping (10 - 20 bucks) and transfer fees ($25) I still pay close to $500 on most pistols and that's without night sights. If the refinish job is going to cost me and/or I have pay shipping then I'll trade it for a post 2006 made XD 9 or 45.

Thanks for the info. That's what makes these forums well worth it.

SA custom shop advised me that I would want to have slide and parts refinished and the cheapest way would be the Armory Kote at $90 plus $25 return shipping not including shipping to SA. HMMMM, I think I'll go back to gunshop and see if they have other "newer" models, but I don't think any of them have night sights.

I have the XD45 Service and love it, but 45acp is not cheap and I am looking at getting a XD9 Tactical for a cheaper range trip.
Good Luck!!

Well, I went back and was going to transfer my deposit toward a "new" XD9 service, but all they had were the ported ones, so I transfered my deposit toward a XD45 Service. I'll be sending it to SA to have night sights installed. They also had acc. kits on hand for $39 and only two left for .45 ACP 4"/5", so I bought those too.

Before I chose the XD45 I compared the XD9 to the XD45 and by golly there sure isn't a lot a diffence between them. I'm glad I got the 45 and I'm sure I'll happier once I shoot it.

Additionally, I have reloading equipment and about 750 230 grn RN .45 bullets, app. 1,000 cases, some powder, and 800 primers on hand and will be buying more after Jan. 1st.

Thanks for the information regarding the slide/metal parts finish. Greatly appreciated.
