XD 40 Compact vs. S&W M&P 40c.

I was just wondering if anyone on the forum shot both the XD-40 compact and the S&W M&P 40c? I'm really looking for an informative opinion of the quality and the reliability between these two models. To be honest, I'm thinking of getting either one as my conceal carry weapon of choice. Right now I carry a Glock 29 as my conceal carry weapon of choice (a little bulky). Any opinions would be deeply appreciated!!

Take Care and Merry Christmas to everyone!

The S&W M&P 40c is similar to the XD .40 Sub Compact in size. I suspect that's what you're looking for a comparison on.

I have an XD .40 SC and it is my secondary carry. Not having shot or carried the S&W, I can't compare the two in that respect. I have held the S&W and it didn't "fit" my hand the way the XD does. My hands get filled with an XD, the S&W seemed a little smaller.

I like the XD, that's probably why I have three. I would consider either one over a Glock and can recommend the XD as a reliable pistol in a small package, but I've never fired, held, thought about buying or wanted a Glock.

Doesn't look like you've gotten much action with this post. Hope my biased response will help some.

Yeah, what Mad Geek said.

Love my XDSC, never shot an M&P.

Reliability wise, they're probably both pretty close. Go rent both and shoot them. Then pick.

+1

I agree, I much prefer the feel of the XD over the M&P. Of course both of them beat the glocks I've held hands down.

I shot both before buying the XD. When using the MP, something in my grip caused my thumb to hit the mag release button every now and then. It went something like bang, bang, clank. I would then pick up the mag and shoot some more. I talked with the owner of the range and he says about 25% of people have this problem with the MP's. Any who, I bought the 40sc about 6 months and 1500 rounds ago and love it. I carry daily and use it for IDPA. I currently use the Blackhawk Serpa for carry and IDPA and a wind shirt for my cover garment (you can get these at Dick's for about $30 ea). I will be getting a Crossbreed Supertuck after the first of the year.

Good luck!

I fired both , and like both. I ended up buying an MP40c though because my department doesnt authorize any XD's for off duty carry as of yet.

That's surprising that the M&P is already approved for OD carry, but the XD, which has been out quite a bit longer then the M&P, isn't yet.

Our dept. lets you carry anything off duty that shoots a centerfire cartridge and you can qualify with. I love my XDsc for OD carry.

Someone needs to show your brass what's up.

We are in the process of updating our off duty list. Our list has been in effect for like 10 yrs. It limits us to .380,9mm, or 40 call dao pistols specifically : beretta 92/96, Sig, Glock, Any DAO or Striker fired S&W. The list came out with the sigma in mind years ago. The M&P fits the category so my range master really couldnt argue(although he tried!). Before this I was carrying a P239 which is nice , but I just wanted something different.

I would imagine there both terrific guns, I think it's all about personal preference, to my son and I, the XD's just felt better in our hands, for some reason my thumb didn't feel like it was resting on a spot that it was supposed to when I held the M&P, my son had the very same observation,

But either way, they will both be reliable , the M&P has a slightly longer barrel, but it is thinner than the XD and a little lighter also, I actually wanted to like the M&P better, since the XD feels bulky compared to it, but as they say, the XD fit like a glove, the M&P did not.

If 5+1 is enough for you, might check out the Kahr PM40 SWEEET guns, but Pricy. I might get an CW40. nice feel, very thin,(single stack) not as expensive as the PM40, around $429 bucks, a little bigger, close to the M&P in size and 7+1
