Does the XD's build quality compare to Glock?
I'm just curious to hear from xd owner with experience with glocks also, I work with duty police officers every day and they are issued glocks and swear by them. They keep telling me that the XD's build quality is inferior.

inferior?
i dont see how or why. the build quality has to be approximately equal. but i have never been a fan of the manner in which glock frame rails are molded into the plastic. The xd has a much nicer situation in regards to the internal frame and frame rails.

I work with officers everyday as well and about 80% of them are issued Glocks. I've owned both brands as well.
I would trust my life to either machine, they are equally dependable, reliable, accurate, etc... Both are durable as hell and use good quality steel. I've never seen either out of the box with any machining errors. I like the XD better because of the improved grip angle over the Glock and the grip safety. I also like having a "Compact" model that actually fits my grip (love the 10-13 rounds of .45 too) The XD is also a whole lot more handsome. Two reasons I like the Glock over the XD 1. Aftermarket parts are readily available 2. Complete disassembly is a lot easier on the Glock. Field Stripping is about equal, but taking it down to bare bones...the Glock wins. The reason officers swear by them is the Glock always goes bang...but then again, so does my XD

There is no argument that Glock builds a quality gun. My roomate from college is a state trooper, and if you ask him he swears by Sig. His duty gun happens to be a Sig. Nothing wrong with a Sig, they build a quality gun as well. I guess when you are issued something you are going to trust that gun because you don't have a choice. If I was issued a Glock I would have no worries about reliability or build quality. Glock has been around longer and has better brand recognition. Anyone involved with guns knows the name "Glock," but if you tell them you have an XD often times they will say, "Well, what's that?" With over 20 years of experience in the polymer framed pistol market, there are more parts available for the Glock.

I' m gonna take a quote from another post on this forum. "Brand obsession/cheerleading is a form of dementia." KB's are caused by faulty ammunition not build quality.

Plastic frame rails and trigger, and blocky grip are 2 reasons I'll never own a Glock.

I own both and as stated earlier I trust my (and my families) life with both. I simply like the grip angle better on my XD. I have never had any issues with either, they both go bang everytime.

I wouldn't say that at all about XD pistols. They have been just as reliable as any of my Glocks. Pull the trigger and it goes bang everytime. The pistol grip does have a better feel then Glocks, but Glocks are still comfortable to hold for me also. The only thing that XD falls behind in is the finish. To me the tenifer finish on a Glock is better then the finish on any XD (just my opinion). Take Care and God Bless! Ronin

Probably for a lot of them... but it is a fact that GLOCKS will fire when out of battery. Not a good thing. This isn't a knock on Austria's model T. If they pointed better for me I would own one.
