+1 on clipping springs.
If it's that much of a problem call Springfield.

The ambi release on the 21SF isn't getting the best reviews! It takes quite a push to release the magazine, although my XD9 was difficult to manipulate for awhile until it broke in.

I understand everything you said below, however, I'm curious about the locking block. On my Glocks, the locking blocks are removable; are you saying they aren't very solid? I've been shooting Glocks for 15-years and I've never had a single issue with a locking block in any caliber...including my G32 which had a punishing recoil. ('Had' -- I sold it because I went broke shooting it)

Regarding the manual safety, despite owning Glocks, Kahrs, XD, (and previously most of the German varieties), I am interested in the XD45 with the manual safety.

The locking block has the rails in it, which is nice if you need to work on it.

Mines a tac 40. I checked it again last night: the trigger is metal, but the little safety lever in the middle is black plastic. Very easy to scrape off material with a blade edge.

Great, I'm going to fix that little problem on my XD45c right now!! The XD9 was fine but the 45 had a mountain ridge for the safety lever.

Completely removed the safety piece last week and I like the trigger much better now! No little spring squeek and the resulting trigger now has a nice little ridge in it now which gives your finger a nice groove to rest in. Easily done...pop out pin in trigger and the whole thing falls out.
