Uncle Mikes Nylon holster

Yes I did search first! Anyway, I bought an uncle mikes cloth (nylon) IWB holster last night. I really like the looks of this. I have pretty much decided that a cloth IWB holster is what I am looking for. The guy that was helping me had an xd and he put it in the holster and showed me. Looked good so I bought it. When I got it home and tried it out it did not conceal for ****. It was sticking way up out of my pants and the handle was clearly visible through my shirt. Upon inspection of the package it said it would fit most revolvers with a 2-3" barrell. It is a size 0 holster. I beleive this holster is too small for my 4" service xd 40. what size should I get for my 4" service? was this size 0 the best option? are all nylon holsters going to conceal this poorly? The best part is the price- 13.99. i realize I get what I pay for but I really like the way this holster felt i just want it to conceal better. By the way it was the one with the velco retention strap. thanks in advance for any help!

I have a size #15 that does not have the retention strap. I hate retention straps/thumb breaks. I bought it to see if that was the way I wanted to carry before I bought a leather rig (Fist #1). Reholstering sucks with it, because there is nothing to hold it open, so it's a 2 handed job. When practicing your draw stroke, that can get old fast.

I have an XD40 Service. It rides a bit higher than it does in my Fist holster, but not much. I still use it occasionally if I get really sweaty in the good holster, and need to let the leather dry out.

Hmm, I would never buy an IWB holster that was soft and did not have a reinforced opening. One handed re-holstering is a must for CCW!! If you have to use two hands you need better equipment and/or more training. I use a DeSantis Speed Scabard for my XD most the time and an Uncle Mike's Kydex paddle holster for range practice and competition. I also have a Don Hume IWB clip holster but the jury is still out on that one. Spend the extra bucks and get a real holster for IWB carry.

I am no small guy myself. 6'1" and ~300 Lbs (too many hours behind a deskand donuts with coffe in the morning). I find Unkle Mike's Kydex paddle OWB holsters quite comfy. I would not recomend kydex IWB for guys our size though, leather is better.

nickc, I'm close to the same size as you (I weigh more), and understand your concern about kydex...but I tried on a FIST thin kydex holster and it was very comfortable--some kydex holsters are not smooth on the inside but the FIST was. Good grip presentation, just the right height...nice, nice holster, conceals very well because it's so thin. I think it can be had for around $50ish.

Don't put a $13 set of tires on a ferarri. Scrounge up the extra dough--it'll be worth it. +1 to manygunner on one-handed reholstering. It's a must if you're carrying. If you've just drawn and shot some BG, you're gonna want to get that weapon back in the holster as soon as you're safe from further threat. Your adrenaline is going to wreak havoc with you, and to fumble around with both hands to get your weapon reholstered is ASKING for a ND. Muscle memory, one handed *shump* back into the holster is what you need.
