Texas CC Question

I have my permit here in Texas and I have a question for any other Texans carrying out there...

My Instructor said you could not 'print' when you carry. Many others have said the same on the forum, but I'm not sure what state they were from. I looked for it in the Texas CC handbook and could not find anything saying there could not be a 'print'. What am I missing? The definition of 'concealed' (in the handbook) mentions nothing about 'printing'.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

they way my chl instructor put it out went something like this:

if you're at walmart and reach for something on the top shelf and your gun ACCIDENTALLY shows, its not a violation of the law, now if you are wearing you super tight biker spandex suit with you gun clearly outlined in spandex then you are breaking the law because you INTENTIONALLY failed to conceal," basically thats what he said so if you cover it up and don't intentionally fail to conceal your ok. besides if the but of your gun makes your shirt stick out a little if you lean over, who is to say its not your cell phone, leatherman tool, volunteer fireman pager.........just don't tuck it in your spandex and walk out of the house.

If you're printing, you're no longer concealed. It means you can tell you have a concealed weapon under your clothing.

yep... printing = not concealed..

thing is though...

by that definition the gun pretty much has to be outlined... So if your not used to dressing with a concealed gun in mind then you may have a problem with the butt of the gun "printing" this is "okay" (not recommended) as no one could really say hey that's a gun if they see a shapeless bulge or a sharp edge.

Keep in mind that bulging is not printing if it is not recognizable by a common person. Other CHLs and LEOs know what to look for and typically gaze at odd bulges. All other people won't even notice. If they do, they'll assume it's a PDA or cell phone. If for some odd reason someone actually figures out it's a gun, they'll probably assume you're law enforcement (as long as you're not dressed like a gangster). Most people don't pay attention to odd body shapes. Think about it. Before your CHL, how many times did you gaze at other men's midsections? Also, you are usually moving or walking or your arms are partially obstructing other peoples' view.

Like this... it is bulging. A CHL would know or assume it's a gun. Everyone else won't even care.

I go out in public like this.

Yeah, printing kind of assumes it's obviously a handgun.

This is how it was explained to me. If you are concealed but the wind blows your shirt and your heat shows, you are still ok. You can't help that. Printing is a very touchy topic. My instructor also said that if you are going to carry, dress accordingly. He said to not be the "test case"! Just keep in mind, poop does happen. Here is where I got my CCL: http://www.concealedhandgun.com/ The class was kickass. My dad, grandpa, and sister took the class together. He gave us a group discount and me a military discount. We all had a blast!

Propellorhead hit it on the head! Before I had my CCL, I paid no attention. Most of the sheeple don't either.
