It would be cheaper to just get the XD refinished for $90.

I agree but honestly this has me a little on edge wether or not this is only one of more problems to come. So I figure before anything else can go wrong I will part with it. Might be me just worrying but I would rather be safe then sorry. Besides there were some other issues as well but I dont want the xd lynch mobb after me so I will leave it at only finish problems so the diehards dont get their panties in a wad

Rooster, I never mentioned anything about rust.
Yeah, obviously there are some XDs that have defective finishes. Springfield does refinish these guns. From what I read they do whether the guns show rust or not. That seems more than fair.

No, it won't be the same finish as on a Glock. The Glock process (Tennifer) involves the use of cyanide and can't be done in the US (I guess OSHA rules).

Someone said that Colt does the finishes...I have no idea. I've been lucky. Like the overwhelming majority of the people who have not had any finish problems with their XDs.

I am not sure why you seem so pissed. There is no "lynch mob" or "die hard" mentality that I see here. Just a group of mostly satisfied customers. If there are complaints, this board is the place you'd most likely hear about them. But there seem to be virtually no issues other than the occasional bad finish. Which gets corrected by SA's customer service - which seems to get high marks for satisfaction.

I was torn between a Kimber and a Springfield 1911. Virtually identical guns. Same everything including price. The deciding factor for me was the feedback I read from owners of both that had to deal with customer service. You buy a gun (or anything) and you hope nothing goes wrong with it. But you have to know there is always a chance of a problem. So at that point you are at the mercy of the company's customer service.

Here's the link to the owners groups. You can read about all the manufacturers. Use the search. Do whatever. But I'm sure if you do a little reading you would have to agree that SA seems to have the best overall customer satisfaction when it comes to service:

http://www.1911og.org/forum/vbindex.php

I have no personal stake in SA....I don't own their stock, I don't care if they are making a profit or taking a loss on every gun they sell. Doesn't affect me at all.

Same is true of everyone else here. So I really don't get your comments about a "lynch mob" or XD "die hards"....no one really cares. They just like their guns. I like my car too. So far the car has been perfect. But you know what? I got the car in good part because it has a great warranty to go along with a great reputation....for both the car and for service. That was all I could do. I had now way of knowing in advance with absolute certainty that I would not get a lemon.

If the car does have a problem, I will get it fixed. I won't be happy, but I won't be pissed. And I can't imagine anything making me want to get the car fixed and then get rid of it....I KNOW it's a great car, and I can't get better. I can get something as good, but not better.

Nothing is perfect. I may someday need to trust my life to the XD. But I DO trust my life to my car every single day. We all do.

The XDs seem to work well for almost everyone. You seem worried about "issues" that haven't happened. You made a reference to some "issues" that have happened, but you don't say what they are. I guess if they aren't worth talking about and the finish is (even with no rust) then the other issues can't be very important.

If the gun doesn't do what you expect it to do, then you should get rid of it. But if the gun's finish is the only real "issue" and it can and will be fixed, then why be so anxious to get rid of it for "anything"? Seems not to make sense. At least not from what you said.

Peace,
D.

I smell a troll! My finish is just fine! It does kinda make me wonder what cleaner's are being used?

Sorry your SA expierience could not have been better. If you need to let it go cause the "finish" doesn't meet your standards than go for it. But try not to whine to us and make it seem like we own "junk". I for one am quite pleased with my XD and will trust it with my life everytime I carry it!!!

You have made your point and numerous people have told you to contact SA about warranty replacement but yet you continue to post nonsense about replacing it!

Sorry if I offended you but what more would you like us to say? Seems to me like your trying to get a rise out of someone!

I am not a moderator or anything but I really don't think this is the kind of place for badmouthing! Quite a nice and helpful community of XD owners who enjoy to help each other out! We have done that but yet you still complain!

Just my .02!

Delija,
I dont mean anyone has tried to lynch me, just that when you start mentioning FTF's they come out of the woodworks. Forgive me if I gave the feeling that prior posters had tried attacking me or something. It's kinda hard to get everything out the correct way over the net. The only people I am pissed at are Springfield for wanting to charge me in the beginning.

I also heard the same as you about the Glock finishes but that they might be starting it in the U.S. not positive though.

For the record I use hopps gun cleaner.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but it might make sense to call Springfield again. If they re-finish it for free... why the heck not?!? You can still get another gun of your dreams and be better off for it (would you get more for a nicely refinished XD or one with finish problems?). At any rate, give them another shot. Be firm but polite, and let us know what they say.

Good luck! Sorry your experience was bad. My subXD has been a champ. I'm either lucky, or you are unlucky. If the finish issue is paramount, perhaps a G26 is for you? They are fine guns too, and the finish is great.

Thanks for all the good advice and contacts guys. I have been working out of the office so I should hopefully get it all straightened out today.

Let me ask this to those of you that have gotten it refinished does the new finish hold up better or is it about the same?

I have a G27 gonzo and love it but I like a little variety and was hoping I would be alot happier with this. Honestly the biggest pain in the ass about the whole process is being without a gun for 3-4 weeks, what if it was my only piece? ya know what I mean?
