Is the XD Sub-compact legal in California?

A question came up during a conversation last week that has prompted a question. Is the XD Sub-compact legal in California? As an example, I own the XD Sub-compact in 9mm that came new in the box with both a 10 and 16 round magazine. Does the 16 round magazine make the handgun illegal in California or is there something specific about the Sub-compact itself that makes it illegal. If only a 10 round magazine is used is the XD Sub-compact legal in California?

You can't have anything higher than 10 rounds in california unless it was purchased prior to the ban.

I live in california and every time i go to an out of state shop or gun show, there are guns new in box with hi cap magazines that have stickers on them that say "not legal in california"

so yeah, its the hi cap that makes it illegal, not the gun.

thats the list of springfield handguns certified for sale in california.

Plus, all firearms have to be certified by
the state of CA to be saleable in that
state.

Here is an update -

LOL...I would say that regardless of what state you live in...You shouldn't be relying on the amount of lead you can fling for self defense.

My 10 round mag is enough for me to take out 5 assailants if I 'practice shooting'. I really don't feel 'impaired' in any way having 10 vs. 16.

That being said, I don't agree with the ban. The same argument would work to argue against the ban, in that how the hell is 10 vs. 16 rounds going to matter all that much?

Reading that list made me sick to my stomach. Can't have a Buckmark II? Are you f*cking kidding?

I'll never move to Cali and I'll never vote for any change for a naturalized citizen to become president! (And my parents are naturalized citizens!)

Thanks for the info

Sounds like the XD Sub-compact is a go as long as in runs a 10 round magazine. Thanks for your input.

A note for Druac

I am glad you practice shooting - it is really important. For my 9 years in law enforcement and doing a few years as an entry man duty on a metro SWAT unit the "10 rounds is enough to take out 5 assailants" works out on the range but not in real life. In 18 months we had five officer involved shootings. Lots of cops involved, lots of bullets flying and the average distance of all the shootings was 7 feet, not 7 yards. When the crap starts to hit the fan you shoot until they stop doing what they were doing that made you draw and fire in the first place. I wish the real world of street combat was clean and easy but its not. It is messy, fast and furious. Some of the cops I worked with who were in our study were excellent officers in tactical situations and on the range. Nothing on the street is real textbook. Keep training on the range and it will give you an edge. The last time I interviewed an officer involved in a shooting I asked, "What would like to have going into the next gunfight?" His response was simple, "More bullets!"

True points above..... If you cant get it done in 10 then there is more than likely a bigger problem than just the ammo! BUT if sh!t is going down and adrenalin is pumpin I would much rather have more lead!
