XD-45 Trigger job--worth it?

I was looking for some information on the XD when I found this website. It was all I needed to confirm that a XD purchase would not be one that I would be sorry for. I am the proud owner of a XD 45 Service.

I recently viewed a video on U-tube of a guy who had a Springer trigger job done to his XD. The video attempts to show the before and after trigger pull sequence. I could see a slight difference but frankly, not enough for me to justify the expense of the modification and shipping.

I have had trigger jobs done on half a dozen 1911's over the years and the difference is profound. There would be no difficulty for even a novice to notice the difference and appreciate it.

I am a police officer and intend to carry this XD periodically in plain clothes and on occasion, off duty. I have trigger jobs done on my favorite 1911's and I carry those. The legal issues regarding a trigger job do not bother me.

Is a springer/canyon creek/springfield trigger job worth the money? Which of these three companies provide the most bang for the buck? I notices that each of these guys offer several options for trigger modifications. Which one of those provide the greatest improvement for a dollar? I don't have a ton of expendable income and would appreciate any input any of you might have with regard to your experiences.

Yes....it is worth it! I have the combat/carry trigger job on my XD9 and it's a completely different pistol. I used Springer Precision and all I can say is Scott does fantastic work. I've heard good things about all of the places you mentioned, I think all 3 do quality work. Here are some links to a few threads that might help you out.....and some pics of my XD that Scott worked on.

Definitely read this thread:
XD Trigger work and CCW
After we laymen went back and forth for a bunch of pages on it, Massad Ayoob, author of numerous books and articles on pistols for self defense, accomplished shooter, and law enforcement officer for i believe 30 years or thereabouts joined the discussion and added some excellent information.

They are to sport shooters who want the lightest possible triggers to maximize their scores. If you buy the springer polished sear kit and install it, you will be delighted with the improvement in pull and smoothness ( I have one in my XD). It will also not lighten the trigger below about 4.5# which should be no problem for a carry gun.

I had Canyon Creek do a trigger job on my XD45C Tactical a little over a month ago and it is well worth the money. I only had them take it down to 4.5 lbs but it is much shorter and crisper. A friend had Canyon Creek take his XD40 taken down to 3.5 and is getting many compliments on it, even from die hard 1911 shooters. He went that light because that is his competition gun.
