I just recently (in the past few months) started carrying, and it was definitely a strange feeling the first few times i did it. I found myself looking at nice old ladies in line next to me at the store thinking "she'd run screaming if she knew i had a .45 stuffed in my pants right now" lol. Then i'd smile and hold the door for her on the way out
I eventually decided the same thing you did, which is that 99% of the people never even consider the possibility that the guy next to them in line, or the one smiling and holding the door might be packing.
One sort of unexpected thing that happened was the responsibility i felt as i did it. I feel as if i need to conduct myself in a manner consistent with the responsibility i have, which i find to be a definite good thing.

I felt the same way the first time I carried CC but then, I too noticed that nobody either noticed or cared.

Congratulations.

Nobody ever notices, even my wife forgets. She went to smack me last night and hit the gun! It is for protection you know!

In Kentucky, we have to take an 8 hour class, then submit to a background check and pay the fees.. It costed me 80 for the class and 63 for the permit.. There are many stipulations that are required as far as past convictions and active DVO's..

I understand that I have a HUGE responsibility now, and have to admit it has changed my thinking the whole time I have been preparing for this.. I have to AVOID confrontation now. I believe that if I can carry like I am again today with jeans and a t-shirt, then anyone can conceal easily. I think I may try to tackle carrying the Colt Commander tomorrow and see how that works..

I remember one of the questions on the KY test was "do you have the right to use deadly force if somone is on your property stealing a bicycle." I got it right - no but was suprised at how many people "blew" the guy away for a bike. That said, I thought KY's requirements to obtain a CDW was very well thought out and my training was great.

I purchased my XD40SC after having my CDW license for a year and never packing. (my other guns were way to big and not concealable for me) The funny thing for me after the class was the fact that even without packing I had immediately became fully aware of everyone around me. I go into places now and immediately locate the exits, see who's in the store, constantly scan for odd things, etc...

I pretend I am carrying LOL, makes an interesting perspective. I suppose I could ccw at home/property and see if my parents ever notice LOL.

Yes I too am aware of my surroundings in a different manner- yes I do look for exits and so on as well. I had thought I could be a little airheaded when out and about, but perhaps due to the fact that I fur trap, I have become that much more aware of whats around me. For instance, do you know anyone who can casually find fox turds, or who just has to look at the sandbars on creeks? How about someone who scans steep creek banks for slides made by otters and beavers?

As far as general scanning around me, I have done it with people for many years, in fact it likley started due to bullies in school, then continued with the "thug life" types in Baltimore when I lived there . My latest people watching involves trying to see if any men are "imprinting" their ccw weapon, while I am in PA LOL. But so far I can't tell! If they are packin, I ain't seein'!
