XD gear.. how satisfied are you with it?
I hear complaints about XD gear, but on my side I really don't have any complaints. It is cool that the gun comes with a mag and gun holster. I really have no need to upgrade.
So what's the deal? Why does XD Gear get a lot of bad press? Because it is free? |

If the magazine holder were a single or 2 parallel I can imagine using it, but 2 in a big "V", which I assume will flop around on my belt with 2 mags in it, doesn't interest me. Nor buying a special belt to hold a free item. The case it unnecessarily large, and has no storage for other range items or ammo. Worst of all, if you lock it somebody can still pry open the opposite side of the case and remove the gun. That is is useless as tits on a bull. But I like the XD. Wish I'd gotten an option to get a free T shirt instead. |

Really like the mag-loader. Don't use the holster much because I'm scared of scratching my gun... (I know I know, but it's my first gun, lol).

The Holster is GARBAGE.
The magazine holders are GARBAGE. The Mag loader is o.k. but I've never really had any probs loading magazines. SA need to keep that JUNK, and give us MORE MAGAZINES (I'd rather get 3 or 4 magazines, than 2 magazines and that plastic crap). .......Of course that'll never happen because people BUY tons of Magazines, but I really doubt they actually SELL too many of those XD holsters!

The "XD Gear" does exactly what it's supposed to do, give the new buyer a chance to go to the range and test out his new purchase. Due to the reviews and price of XDs I suspect they have the highest percentage of newbies in the top tier of service pistol makers. The loader is fine, I used it all the time untill I got an UPLULA, I dont know if I ever used the mag pouch as I already had something else. As for plastic vs leather I feel plastic holsters are for plastic guns ( my USP and XDs are housed mostly in plastic except for shoulder and SOB rigs ) and leather is for metal guns ( my 1911 and CZ ). Since my XDs are my "go anywhere" guns I appreciate the weatherproof/sweatproof nature of Kydex.

I think it's ok for free stuff but I'm a lefty. With my first XD I did write to SA and they sent me a lefty holster free but it's paddle style instead of belt ready. It was nice to have something to use to go out the first few times. It gave me a chance to look around at several other products instead of rushing to get something so I could use my new pistol. The biggest issue I have with the mag holder is that it places them in opposite orientation; meaning one has the ammo facing forward and the other to the back. This is counter to the training I've had but I did find that you can use them with the magazines in the same orientation if you adjust them. I like the loader but try to mix loading with and without it so I don't loose touch loading manually (heaven forbid I'm ever in a situation where I run out of loaded magazines, have to retreat to an ammo stash, and have to reload!).
I think it would be nice if they excluded it and instead gave you a coupon that you could redeem for the equipment (and tell them if your a righty or a lefty), additional magazines, t-shirt, or just a rebate. A case this size should have a little storage. |
