The mag loader is handy for when you got virgin magazines. Damn things are so tight, you can't squeeze all your rounds in there.
The holster that comes with the XD is great for mounting on your truck. Wouldn't ever put it on my belt, though.

I pretty much feel the same way. I could have done without the gear if they'd have thrown in 1-2 more mags or take 40-50 off the price of the XD.

I wish the carrying case were useful, but it's not. Like I said you can open it when it's locked- pretty useless.

carrying case
When it comes to the case just drill a hole on the other side of the handle for a second lock or drill a hole in the middle of the handle. Problem solved!

I have not and will not EVER use the mag holster. When I carry a spare mag, it's either in my pocket or in a leatherman-type pouch on my belt. What annoys me most about the mag holster is the fact that it is designed to hold the magazines in two different directions. With my Marine Corps pistol gear, when I carry my extra 3 beretta mags, they all face the same way, so I don't have to spin them around in the event I needed to reload quickly. It's set up so when I grab one with my non-firing hand, they're already in the direction they need to be to go into the gun.
I'm not a big fan of the gun holster, as it doesn't offer any positive retention. I used it for about a day and a half before I got a good Galco one instead that I use for open carry. The XDGear one is about to become one with my dash, again, for when I OC. I do use and do like the magazine loader. All my magazines are pretty new, and it does help with the last few rounds in each mag. Also, I love the fact it came with a cable lock. |

Eh,
I've found the XD Gear to be absolutely sufficient for my needs. I don't CCW (Wisconsin doesn't allow it 'cause they apparently haven't figured out what "shall not be infringed" means) so it is limited to use at the range and in my one experience with IDPA style "competetion" during the Milwaukee Area XDTalk.com Introduction to Competitive Shooting class. I'm a lefty and SA was kind enough to send me a lefty paddle holster that I like considerably better than the belt holster that came with the gun. For toting the weapon around the range and for the "competition," it was great. It's comfortable, I adjusted the tension so that it held the gun in place securely but I still have a quick draw (as my "competition" times showed). The holster itself is secure and doesn't shift on my hip at all. I can see a potential problem with the fact that the belt loop could conceivably prevent it from riding exactly where I want it to be. The mag holder was absolutely fine as well. There was no problem at all carrying both spare mags in it with the bullets facing forward. I know that others have complained that it's designed to hold the mags opposite directions from each other, but I had no trouble simply turning one of the mags around. I don't use the mag loader 'cause I'm all manly and stuff, but my wife and her best friend use it and like it a great deal.

Well, I'm one who actually bought one of the XD holsters. It's not the one that comes with the guns apparently, but a 5350 paddle holster, and I actually like it enough that I wish I knew who made it. I'd like to have one for a couple of other guns I've got. And yes, I've tried a couple of others too. I doubt the 5350 is the "best" but it's good enough for me. It holds the gun securly, rides close enough to conceal easily, but far away enough to offer an easy draw and reholster. Being a paddle holster, there's no problem with that annoying belt loop that's always right where I want my gun to be. Seems to be easy on the guns finish too. I can't comment on the magazine loader, or the magazine holder since I've never even seen those. I never needed a magazine loader actually, mine were easy right out of the box. Now the magazines (10 round) that came with my wife's G-19. Those are a different matter. They're a bear to load, with or without the loader.
