stupid snap caps

Why do the ones I got for dry fire practice keep getting stuck in the chamber? They cost a bundle and a guy at the place I got them said they were good ones. I had to go there yesterday to have him jiggle the slide to get the damn thing to extract and pop out. How embarrassing! Then we go back and forth chambering it and popping it out in front of 2 other customers ( embarrassing!), then he sticks it back in and I go home. Last night it was sticking again and I couldn't get it out after several tries. Then I had bad dreams about it! Finally in the last dream I had a game warden in a bedroom LOL ( we weren't doing anything naughty) and was I jerking the slide again and it popped out. So I was determined when I got up and went and jerked that slide back real fast and hard and the 2nd time the danged snap cap ejected.

So much for snap caps. These are Traditions brand and expensive.

Advice for this dumb woman?

LOL

No such thing as a dumb question.

I have never used the traditions, But I had a similar problem with some from Beretta. I found that if I had a dirty chamber they would not eject. I was not cycling them through a cold gun, But was inserting them randomly in my mags to practice tap rack drills. So my gun was dirty and also warm.

I would try to clean and oil the chamber. What are the snap caps made of plastic or metal?

There for a moent i thought this was going to take a twisted turn with all dreaming, jerking and shaking.

No need to use snap caps though, your not going to hurt that gun dryfiring it.

I found that my XD-40 didn't like snap caps as much as my PX4-9. After some trial and error, I found the trick with the XD is you must FULLY rack the slide to chamber a round. Anything less will get the snap cap wedged in there oddly.

FYI - I use the plastic Tipton brand caps.

+1 on Tipton
I have used one of the Tiptons and it has never jammed, but you can also hear a different sound when it is chambered and fired vs an aluminum A-Zoom. The A-Zooms i have jam frequently...maybe 1 in 4-6. I have gotten a lot of practice in racking, tapping, and then dropping the mag though.

They are plastic with brass rim. Gun was cleaned, then fired 21 rounds through it last friday, didn't clean it after that, figured it couldn't be that dirty.

I compulsively clean my weapons -- all of them: Sword, wasters, guns.... Not sure why... it's just got this zen appeal to it. So relaxing.

check the body of the snap cap for burrs and such. It may be out of round.
