9mm XD SC - Problem: Eject mag; ammo everywhere

Ok, that's the best I can come up for a title.

I work in a CPZ, there's nothing I can do about the anti-gun policy of a international company and I need this job, so let's try to focus on the XD problem.

Every morning, I put on my XD. When I get to work, I lock it in my safe in my vehicle. But before locking the gun in the safe, I eject the mag and take the mag with me. When I get out of work, I load the mag into the mag well, rack the slide and let it fly home. I throw on my holster, double check by feel on the loaded chamber indicator and go about my day.

This morning, I put my XD on. When I got to work, I eject the mag, set it down, ejected the round in the chamber. I went to put the 10th round back into the mag and notice the ammo was everwhere. Still in the mag, but some rounds were facing up, down, etc. I had to eject 3 rounds out of the mag to get everything lined up. This was certianly disconcerting as if I would have had to use it, I'd have one round only.

Anyone else run into this? What caused this?

Never had that exact thing happen, but make sure your ammo is pushed all the way to the back of the magazine. After loading mine, I tap it against the palm of my other hand to make sure they are all seated. This can also help alleviate chambering problems.

While I don't have any problems with your routine, do make sure you are cycling that top round to the bottom every so often. Chambering the same round over and over can lead to the bullet being seated to deep, which could result in something very nasty on your first shot (when you need it most).

Sounds like a bad spring in the magazine.

Yeah, I don't think I could trust that magazine again. When you need to fire, you don't want that mess in your mag!

I don't see how that can happen if the magazine was filled to capacity. The only way that can occur is if the rounds were not fully seated when you first loaded the mag. Like apollosmith I always give the mag a couple firm taps on the heal of my hand both to align them vertically and against the back of the mag to seat them all the way into the mag.

Wow that really sounds funky. At least springs and mags aren't expensive. Do you really think it's just the spring? I mean for a spring to go all tazmanian devil while inside the mag. Shouldn't the mag case contain the spring?
