The day I pulled the XD out of the case...was the last day it will ever see that case. It's in a closet and will only meet the XD if I sell the XD. To me the case is in the same category as a box.

I dont keep mine in a case either for various reasons. For one, I want quick snatch and grab if need be, not fondling with a case during a potentially life and death situation. Another is because of the potential moisture issue. I have mine sitting in a bookshelf on a piece of felt, hidden behind a partial glass door. Its concealed, yet very attainable in a hurry.
Keep in mind though that I'm a single guy with no kids so for others this isnt feasible.
