Now that I know how to clear the gun on the range.... Our range only permits lead ball. It's hard to find virgin lead ball loads in 9mm around here.... (We don't talk about my virgin loads That really is the best solution. Kinda funny that my other 9mm (S&W M39-2) and my buddy's M92 never do that, but the XD's chamber is very tight. Regards,

After posting, I removed the slide, and blew out the extractor claw and vicinity with Powder Blast. We'll see if that helps.
Chuck, who plans on shooting the XD in competition on Saturday! |

It's not the gun! It's the ammo. I shot a guys 24/7 today and he had it loaded with WWB, I shot about six rounds and PHLAPFT! Round fired and slide came partially back just enough to blast me in the face with some unburnt powder or some other hot matter that stung my face. Upon investigation I found the fired case still in the chamber. No FTE but a FTF. Round simply didn't have enough "Umpph!" to rack the slide for the next round. This is not uncommon for WWB ammo. Is good range ammo but you may have an occaisional FTF. Is no big deal. If your gun does this with any "quality" ammo, then you may have something wrong with your gun or the way you shoot. Don't be alarmed and don't tear your gun apart because of this. Verify that it is the gun before you start messing with stuff. Nothing wrong with taking your gun apart, it ain't that difficult but I'm willing to bet it is not required at this point. As an aside, I have been messing with loading lead bullets for my SC 9MM. I have been trying to get the lightest load I can and still function my gun. I have had small batches of rounds (ten or so) that I had a certain amount of powder in that wouldn't even move the slide. The bullets came out but no slide action. Maybe a little too light? Sure is fun though! Happy shooting!
