Your question brings more questions to mind than answers!
First, as some one else ask , are you shooting off hand or from a rest? Are you using one or two handed grip? Is your aiming point 6 O'clock (Bull balanced on the front sight) or holding dead center? One of the first tips I got when I started shooting (a long time ago) was always be able to call your shot> That is, when the gun went off, where was the front sight? Focus on the front sight, not the target, and squeeze the trigger. Concentrate on the position of the front sight in relation to the rear sight and be able to tell where they were when the gun went off. When you can call the shot consistently, your shots should all end up in the same place (The group). Now you can adjust stance or hold or sights, (if they are adjustable) to put that group where you want it.

I am shooting standing, two handed grip, holding dead center on the sights.

Ive been researching how the "pros" grip their XD and also watched the video on the springer page, now that I have been trying it out, I have alot more problems hitting the slide lock so the slide dosent lock back after last shot. Really starting to bother me. Ive tried to adjust my grip, but then im not comfortable.

Rupert, do you have really big hands?
Oh can anyone tell me the difference in recoil you feel 9mm vs .40 on the service model? Just curious. I picked up a pack of 6 snap caps today- they were like 22.00 for the pack! But the guy at the store said each is good for about 500 dry firings. Now if I can get my target holder repaired ( dad LOL)or make a new one myself... |

This is just somthing i need to correct with my grip. I think there is a very big difference when shooting the 9 and .40. totally different recoil. Ive owned severel XD's and have sold my .40's because of the recoil (and ammo prices). I like 9mm and .45 recoil much better than .40

Take 300 rounds to the range, and fire all them working on a variety of grips. After all is said and done, if nothing significant happens, at least you fired 300 rounds. I call it round therapy and it seems to work for me. You can repeat the process if necessary as often as you like.

Got back out again with the XD, and no slide lock issues... functioned as advertised... and my aim is getting a little better too

rupert I agree whole heartly the recoil of the 40S&W is more snappy than the 9mm or 45ACP. I would much rather shoot a 45 than the 40 as I find the snappy recoil annoying. I too have sold all but one of my 40s and now shoot mainly 45 ACP and have an XD9SC that I carry on occasion.
