Cartridge Conversion For XD-357

I'm hoping to get some clarification from those of you who know much more about my new XD-357 than I do.

My friend told me that all I have to do to change caliber on my XD-357 to either 9mm or 40 S&W is to change the barrel and use a different magazine, no other parts are needed. Is that fact or fiction? I don't want to make a careless mistake and end up with anything unsafe, but I would like the flexibility of having 9mm and 40 S&W shooting capabilities.

Also, is it possible to use a five-inch barrel on a four-inch pistol without being unsafe and damaging the gun in any way?

Thanks so much for your help and information, I really appreciate it.

Yes, with a .357, you can get a 9mm or .40 conversion barrel.

So I have a HS2000 9mm Tactical. I want to shoot 357sig. I replace the 9mm barrel with a 357sig barrel & use 40cal mags instead of the 9mm & I'm good to go? It cant be that easy?

The reason I ask, is IPSC Australia has just been allowed access to 357sig as a major PF in Standard Division (for a trial period of 2 years). 40cal not available here. Previously, Australia only recognised Minor PF in 9mm & 38super for scoring in Standard. No Major.
I hope this makes sense.

You cannot go to a big caliber only smaller. They only make conversions for the xd40/357sig guns.

Thanks for your reply.
So I buy a 40cal HS2000 Tactical & a spare 357sig barrel. Swap the barrels & i'm good to go? No other modifications? Reliability?

If i wanted a 9mm too, I just need a 9mm barrel & mags?

J.L.-

You can go from bigger to smaller but not smaller to bigger. here's how it works:

.40 cal gun: you can get .357 and 9mm barrels
.357 gun: you can get .40 and 9mm barrels
9mm gun: only another 9mm barrel

good luck!

yes , some people have claimed to have perfect relability and others have had some extractions probelms with the 9mm. The 40-357 conversion should be flawless. I dont know if I would put my life on the 9mm conversion but it would be great for the range or just plinking.

Yes it is possible to go with a longer barrel EFK makes a ported barrel that is longer and has the ports on the outside of the frame.
