Hmm...detail disassembly and cleaning?
I have 2 XD-9s, a Service and Sub.
They service has about 2,000-3,000 rounds through it and the Sub, probably 1,500-2,500 rounds. I field strip and clean after each trip to the range. But I've never completely disassembled them. From the outside, they seem clean. Is this truly necessary to do? If so, how often? I looked at AJames's site with pictures and instructions and there is no way I'd attempt it. I know myself and I know what would happen. I'd have a pile of parts that I couldn't get back together and I'd curse myself for ever having tried to do it. |

IMHO, you gotta learn sometime. Remember, there's always us, and a Gunsmith that can help you out if you get stuck. Look at this as a great opportunity to learn about your weapon. It's really not as hard as it looks, promise!!! Not nearly as hard as replacing the sights!!!

No NEED for a detail strip as long as you use good cleaners and good oil. I recommend Weapon Shield CLP.

But the crux of my question is: Does it NEED to be done, and if so, how often? I hope Tempest is right! |
