Need input on a holster
Okay, I'm fairly new to guns (just got my first one, but I've shot them off and on since I was 12). What I am new to is carrying concealed. I just received my permit the other day in the mail, and need a holster.
I know holsters are like opinions, everyone has one and not one agrees on what is the best, but I'd like to hear some input on what I'm looking for. I'm a short but stout guy (with a bit of a tire that I'm working off), and the XD factory holster really isn't going to work for me (as I'm sure many will agree), as it prints too much. I am considering an IWB holster for now, as the OWB holsters seem to allow the back of the grip and slide to press outward and print and I think this will be less of a problem with an IWB. Also, given my clothing options for summer (Georgia heat and 95% humidity through September), I think IWB would conceal better. Now I might consider an OWB holster as well for winter as I'd have more clothing, and it would probably be more comfortable while driving than an IWB. I don't really know what makes one holster better than another (except whether it prints or not, and whether it's comfortable or not), but don't want to spend money on holster after holster (I'd rather spend it on range time and ammo). I was leaning towards leather holsters, but I don't really have a reason for that other than I like the way they look. So if anyone can recommend (preferably from experience) a good holster for someone who's 5"6' but carrying a bit of a tire with him |

All I can speak for is my CrossBreed SuperTuck - fantastic holster. Once you wear it enough times it conforms to your body and can be quite comfortable. It also tucks the gun really close to my body for good concealment.
www.crossbreedholsters.com It depends if you like the styling or not. Some prefer more leather to the holster. I personally like the kydex/leather mix. |

I forgot to mention it's a .40 service model.
Are there advantages to kydex over leather (or the other way around)? |

I would suggest any of the following:
1. K&D Dakota Defender or Cochise - www.k&dholsters.com 2. Brommeland Max Con V - www.brommelandgunleather.com 3. Milt Sparks VM 2 - www.miltsparks.com All of these are leather, I personally don't like Kydex whatsoever. I feel leather is more easily formed to your body over time. All of the above holsters have wait times and are more expensive than a Galco or other commercially mass produced holster. These are great holsters and are worth the wait and money in my opinion. |

I've been eying the K&D Dakota Defender myself. It's hard to choose through between that or the Cochise.

I use a comp-tac infidel holster and have also tried the supertuck. I like the infidel better, but it is entirely a matter of personal preference

I agree with GFunk I have the Crossbreed Standard IWB and love it. I don't see how anything would be more comfortable, but I haven't tried them all. My vote is for Crossbreed and Mark is go to go there. Had mine in 20 days from ordering.
