9mm will work

you put 6-10 rounds in a Mnt Lion and there isn't gonna be anymore attack on you.

Low recoil, you are familiar with the gun. Don't spend the money.

You could use DPX from Corbon for penetration. You could load it with HydraShocks.

You could mix match the ammo. I would carry HydraShocks 124gr and mismatch with FMJ.

Heck, get a 12 gage and load it with double 00 buck shot. No worries, even if you can't shoot straight.

Maybe you better search those cliff overhangs with a helicopter and just keep the door shut! I have never heard of a cougar jumping off a cliff to attack an archaeologist working from a helicopter!

Bonedigger, I remember a thread a while back where we were talking about carry/hiking guns in Bear and lion country. Several of us were unanimous on picking a 10MM. It(Glock, EAA, 1911) holds up to15 rounds depending on make and with a spare mag you could have at least 30 rounds of 10mm at your disposal in lion country. Imagine emptying a wheel gun after 6 shots and trying to reload under duress or animal attack........not good. We XD folk have been asking for a 10mm version for a while, for a reason.

If you had to take the 9mm, 147G +p+ and a hell of a lot of em'

I hope you dont get eaten like that Timothy Treadwell guy in Alaska. Anyone see that documentary? That was one nasty way to go.......

Well, you could go with something close to a 357 magnum with the advantage of a semi auto. Seems like there might just be a niche for a 357 sig.

You may not have seen the lions but you can bet they've seen you.

I like the Ruger GP100 in .357

How about a .357 magnum autoloader? Remember the Coonan?

The Desert Eagle comes in .357 mag, .44 mag and .50 too. I'm just not so sure about the gas operated element. Not exactly cheap either.

I think I would carry all FMJ but either way a 9mm is better than nothing for sure.

I have a hard time saying you should bother getting something new. If you believe you need something for your situation, by all means remedy the situation. Go with an auto similar to what you already have.

I would get a Glock 20 10mm w/200 penetrators above all others for outdoor use as the round has impressive penetration and the gun is reliable, accurate, durably finished, holds 16 rounds and is much easier to use than a revolver and has excellent rapid fire capability. An extra mag, night sights and a M3 light and you are good to go. Don't hesitate to use whatever you have.

Heeeeeere kitty, kitty!
