Ok - I have to ask - please educate me here!

Ok - not trying to start a flame war... I am wanting to get some REAL answers ...

Not the classic "Because the XD is better..." or "because xxx sucks!"

Ok - here's the question.

What makes the XD better than Glock?

I am looking for a new poly-framed carry pistol - same size as - or close to - the XD-9 service or Glock 19 for CCW purposes. Personally, the only thing I hate about the glock is the grip angle. I can shoot them just fine, and they are comfortable to shoot, but if I had to pull-down on a bad guy, I'd like to be able to concentrate on what he is is doing, not on the angle of my wrist! The finish and durability of Glock has proven itself over the years though.

I am an experienced operator, having been in law enforcement on the mean streets of Los Angeles, as well as having been an MP in the USMC Reserve (Semper fi!), so external safeties are not a concern for me - if the gun has it, fine, if not, fine.

My biggest concern would be the finish - I live in Florida, and am not exactly skinny - so - I SWEAT!

Here's the options I've narrowed my list down to and why.. I'd like to see why everyone here would tell me to go to the XD over any of these.

XD-9 Service - either black or bi-tone - because of the grip angle and finish being corrosion-resistant. .
XD-45 Compact 4" - grip angle/finish/ability to shorten the grip.
S&W M&P 9mm 4" - Finish/comfort/wonderful trigger - only draw-back is the size of the bottom of the grip which makes it a little harder to conceal.
FN FNP-9 (not the 9m) - Simply put - I shoot these well! I like the design, as well as the looks (but looks doesn't matter - when you CCW, you're the only one who has to see it regularly!).
Glock 17 or 19 - I shoot them well, corrosion resistance, and availability of parts/repairs/accessories.

I have discounted the Taurus 24/7 as well as Millennium Pro series due to a problem I have with my PT-111 Pro 9mm - it's become a "leftit" gun - leftit at home because I have to send it back to Taurus for repairs! Damned magazine catch shaved itself CLEAN OFF! (Yes - things like this happen, but, it's left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth!). BUT - I will consider other Taurus handguns that are NOT poly-framed.

Constructive criticism is invited, as well as other poly-framed suggestions (please tell why you are suggesting them). Also, any Taurus non-poly-framed guns that would fit the bill.

Thanks in advance!

grip saftey like 1911, trigger saftey like the glock, grip angle like 1911, same finish as the glock( different name but same process)proven reliable. sub compact and .45 compact comes with an extended mag so 2 guns in one. Accurate out of the box.

cons not a lot of aftermarket have to send it back to SA if a problem but they stand behind the gun.

XD-9 Service - I have the 9mm SC. I love it, it's been 100% ever since I've had it.
XD-45 Compact 4" - Never even fondeled one.
S&W M&P 9mm 4" - Great trigger. If I could find a SC cheap enough, I'd definately pick one up.
FN FNP-9 (not the 9m) - Never even fondeled one.
Glock 17 or 19 - I personally hate the trigger. Compared to the XD, I'd rather pick up the XD.

Ever think about a HK USP? I have a .40 FS and love it. I've had it since the early 90's with ZERO problems. (Too expensive to feed, but I will carry it this winter.)

Hardwarz

BTW. Semper Fi brother. 3/2/I - early 90's.

Yes I have, but, the grip is a bit too large for my hands - which leads me to believe that the grip is probably going to have the same problem as the M&P - too hard to hide the end of it!

Also - the USP is a bit pricey. I have a hard stop of $550 to spend on this pistol, and a gun show coming up this weekend to shop around at. Just trying to have all my ducks in a row !

I held a few glocks this weekend @ a show and the grips just felt wierd. The XD fits MY hand better. Thats why I chose to purchase the XD.

Personally, I think that you have answered
your own question in your very reasoned
opinions above.

To me the glock probably falls into the last one of the list that I would take - but - it still made the list.

Any opinions on the other options listed?

Why not the FN FNP-9? you like, it shoots well, and you've shot it before. Not sure why you want to change?

Whatever gun you can competently shoot, fits best for you, and allows you to consistently hit what you are aiming at is the gun you should use.
