A Yugo may travel 15,000+ miles without breaking down. That does not mean I will use or own one.

I have had a XD40 SC for about 6 months and a High Point C9 for about 8 months, never have had a problem with either one... I CC my High Point just as much as my XD and don't think twice about it, Very Dependable.... Now I have to go pull my pants up, my gat keeps pulling them down....

How many times did your XD40SC go back?

Say an XD costs $80 to make. Don't forget about cost of living. $80 buys allot more work in Croatia than in the US. If Springfield made the XD as is (in the US) you can bet the price would be higher. The only ones that get the real savings are the manufacturers who outsource. I also want to state that I wasn't trying to say that XD's are the sh**. I really don't need to compare the two since they are apples and oranges. However an example was needed. I certainly don't think you were trying to compare Hi-Point's to XD's. It's all about quality control and remembering that no matter what.........you always get what you pay for. ~Moe

Apologies if my attempt at humor came across as personal attack.
You say "stating the obvious" - what's obvious? Your few shots with one gun from a brand? Or multiple owners, with thousands of shots? The lifetime warranty making a case for poor quality? Then why didn't GM offer lifetime warranties in the 60's, 70's, 80, and now? A manufacturer only warrants and guarantees what they can afford to - nothing more. BTW - doesn't an XD have a lifetime warranty? Using your logic, you'd not own an XD, you'd have a stable of Kimbers and the like. Yes it is about quality control - and you don't have to create a $500 gun to have a quality firearm. It may not be pretty, but it'll shoot time after time. |

Disclosure: I've got two XD's (40 Service, 45acp tactical) and one Hipoint (995b). My .40 is down for the count with a broken trigger bar. The .45 and 995 have been perfect.
HP uses cheap metal for the slide. Pot metal, white metal, whatever you want to call it. The fact that it's more than up to the job on blowback gun will be completely ignored from here on out. What you need is good quality metal with impressive design features like the original XD locking block or V10 slides. Then you know you're sending back a quality part for a month+ turnaround. Is the HP cheap? Yep. Is it a POS? Yes, in the sense of the above mentioned yugo. Will it get you a big online gun penis? Nope. $200 will get you an accurate reliable gun. For only $300 more you can get a foreign made better looking (dead sexy in my opinion) gun. People have different priorities. -=Whittey=- (Highpoint: At least it ain't a Glock) |

I had forgotten about the cheap cast parts. Cast parts in a gun??? That just has short bus written all over it.
Go Yugo!!! Warranties are good. Never said they weren't. Just don't lose your paperwork because that gun you have is filled with metal unsuited for a firearm. For anything that is going to take high stress or impact (on a regular basis no less) for that matter. Sure the chance that any machine or part can fail is certainly there, but that doesn't mean that I want to increase the odds of it happening.
