Good Price?
I found an XD40 4" used in a pawn shop for $400. I don't know the history of this gun. It could have 10 rounds through it or 10k. If I buy, it'll be my first handgun, so I can't really judge its wear.
Do you think it's worth it? I saw the same model today at Bass Pro Shops on sale for $500 new. If it makes a difference, this is in Las Vegas, NV. Edit: It was hanging on the wall with the holster and 2 mags. Don't know if it has anything else with it. Last edited by TTT; 09-22-2007 at 02:00 AM. |

Check the area where the casing is ejected & see if there is a lot of wear or scratches, My 45 has had about 3000 rnds put through it & its barely scratched On the other hand my 9mm has had about 3000 rnds put through it & it shows considerable wear. Pull the slide back & look at the wear signs on the barrell , this is also a way to tell . Once again it should show some wear but not deep scratches.5000rnds through a S/A is not lot at all "GOOD LUCK" I paid $400.00 for my 9mm also at a Pawn Shop, you won't lose if you go to sell it at that price " Hope I helped you"

Wear signs or the smile on the barrel should be an ok indicator.

Thanks for the help. If it's still there after I get my paycheck, I'll be buying (assuming the wear looks ok). I'd prefer a subby, but I haven't seen any locally. I'm sure I could find one online, but I'd rather help keep my local gun stores open.

TTT,
I live in the Vegas area, too. I just got my first gun, an XD9 Service and love it. Do you have a recommendation for shooting range? I know there are quite a few in the area. |

If its at a pawn shop and marked at $400, you could probably get them to come down at least $25.

I am in Vegas as well and I was just down at American Shooters on Arville and Spring Mountain. I haven't shot there yet but it was a very nice facility with decent fees. The guys working there convinced me that the XD9 was the way to go compared to some others I have been looking at... which is why I am here. I am going to rent one there next week and I am pretty sure this will be the one I get (first handgun).

I'm also in the Vegas area, and have been to Amer. Shooters' range a couple times. The behind-the-counter guys are very knowledgable and don't look down on you for asking noob questions. Also their range prices are fair, better than Discount (on Highland).
On another note...TTT, what pawn shop was that pistol in?? |

Welcome to XD talk fellow Vegan. What pawn shop did you see this gun at? I'd say that it is a good deal if you take the advice from the others here and check the gun out well.
We should go shooting sometime, there are a couple of us on here from Vegas that go shooting from time to time. |

As far as I know there is only one pawn shop in Vegas that sells guns. Say HI to Glen for me if you go get that XD. Ask him his thoughts on the condition of the gun. He knows his stuff and I believe he will give you the straight scoop.
