Decisions Decisions-> New XD9sc
I got a call from my armorer / gunsmith, he says that he just got in a used XD-9sc.
Case, accessories, 2x16 round full size mag and 1x10 round shortie, date of shell casing 02July2007. Also the gun has Tijicon tritium night sights. Price $440. My purpose for this weapon is for CCW and for my wife to plink on the range. So, with all these consideration what do you think I should do? 1. Get the XD-9sc 2. Get a XD-40sc and a conversion barrel 4. Get a XD-45 compact I like the 9mm, I think modern JHP or EBFMJ along with good shot placement is more than adequate, and having mag compatibility with the XD-9 service is a plus... Thoughts, suggestions, comments, recommendations? Cheers,

I'd get the 9SC. It's not as bulky as the .45 and not as much kick as .40 or the .45.

Buy it now, 440 seems like a good price with the extras. I have one and love it, I wanted the 40 but I'm glad i bought the 9. I don't think anyone makes conversion barrels for the sc if they do let me know I've been looking.

I had the pleasure of putting a couple of mags through an XD-9 SC today. I tried it with both the 16 rd magazine, and the 10 rd magazine. At 15 yards, it put them all in the 10-ring of the full-size sillouette target I had. For a compact gun, that was very impressive IMHO. If I lived in a state where CCW was an option, the XD-9 SC would be my hands down number one choice.
I tried the XD-40 and didn't think it was nearly as controllable as the tiny little nine. You can debate 9mm vs 40S&W vs 45ACP all day long, but it really all boils down to shot placement. In a subcompact CCW handgun, I would pick 9mm. It is much much cheaper to buy practice ammo, and I would practice with it more often than I would the .40 or .45. I have a .38 snub I hardly shoot at all. Why not? Because its not as fun to shoot as a 4-inch revolver, or a large frame auto. If I had the XD-9 SC, I think I would shoot it a heckuva lot more than that little .38!! On a related topic, the SA rep also had a EMP 9mm at the range today. I was never bitten by the 1911 bug, but I was very impressed with the EMP. It grouped tighter than the XD-9 SC, and it held 9 rds in a single stack magazine. For those who don't like the synthetic frames and are stuck on a design almost a century old, the Springfield EMP would be a great choice for a nice compact CCW. At $440 with all those extras, I would jump on it! -- Frank |
