Loading my mag
OK I got my XD 9mm. I have been getting familiar with it. Field stripping, dry firing, cocking and all that good stuff( my first gun). I got some ammo. I am trying to figure out this darn mag loader thingy. How does it work? It is a pain in the arse loading a mag by hand

How does it work? Not very well, in my opinion. I can load just as fast without it.
It works by sliding it over the mag (it only goes on one way). You will push the loader down until the mag spring is compressed. Next slide the bullet half way in. The bullet will slide under the lips at the top of the mag and then hit the mag loader before it can go all the way in. Slide the mag loader up and the bullet will stay in place when the spring pressure is released by the loader. Once the mag loader is clear of the back of the bullet, simply push it all of the way into place. Repeat. The mag loader will attach to the holster, to the mag holder (I think), and to your gun's accessory rail, so you can use these to give you a bit more leverage (though, if you use your gun, be sure it's empty, blah, blah). I just haven't figured out how to best hold the thing to make it work efficiently. |

I find it easiest to use when you have a table or something to set the mag down on top of. This way you can just push the loader/mag down.
The web of your hand goes right over top of that little ledge (the point on the loader). It works pretty good once you get it down. Just a little tid bit I found, the last time I was shooting I was loading by hand and I found out you can load 17 rounds of 9mm in the 16 round mag. I'm sure its not good for the spring but its cool to know you can do it. ![]() |

![]() The best way I found to use it was to hold the bottom and pull the loader down with your index finger, while loading the bullet with your right hand. After the mags break in you should be able to load them without the loader. |

lol. I knew someone would ask that. Its a locking mechanism that you put in the chamber and it prevents the slide from moving. Something I "had" to purchase when I bought the gun  Great state of MD huh. The funny thing is right before I left the guy told me "you can throw that away after you leave here"

The LuLA magloader works pretty good, and itll load just about any mag, I don't have any problem with mine, I hold it so the back of the mag is facing the bottom joint of my thumb, then push the rear of the bullet down thats in the mag, and that gives just enough leverage to slide the next bullet in...

Take heart, in time it will become easier to reload by hand. I no longer even try to use the reloader. I'm not talking thousands of rounds either. I'd guess I have less than 500 rounds through it and it's pretty easy now except for maybe the last couple in the 16 round mag. I still don't shoot it much as I mostly practice with my carry gun, a Kahr PM 9. and my Walther 22 for target, and technique practice. I do use it for IPSC, but if I ever get parts for my 1911 will probably even use the XD 9 less. I love the gun, but find that if I can hit well with the Kahr, the XD nine with it's longer barrel and heavier weight is a breeze. |
