.40 if I already have a 9mm and .45?

I know this is a mtter of personal preference since I already own a 9mm and .45ACP pistol but I'm interested in everyone's opinion.

Is it reasonable to consider buying a .40 S&W pistol when I already have a 9mm and .45? I mean mostly for ballistics, not ammo costs. Or would you get another 9mm or .45?

I just got rid of both of my 40s. It doesn't do anythng the other two don't, and I was tired of having to stock 3 different calibers.

Why does it have to be reasonable to get a .40 when you have a 9 and .45? I don't even know what "reasonable" means in this sense. I had my 9 and 45 when I got my 40. I enjoy guns and the 40 was another gun for me to enjoy. In fact, if I only had a 9 and a 45, I would be more reluctant to get another 9 or 45. My next purchase will be either a pocket pistol, a revolver or a 1911. Buy it because you enjoy it regardless of what reasons other people may have.

I got rid of my XD40sc and replaced it with a XD45c. I like the .40 but I wanted to stick with SHTF scenario calibers.

You don't need a .40 caliber...what you need is a nice yugoslavian AK-47!

Naw, seriously though, between 9 and 45 thats all you really need.

Thanks for the "reasonable" replies

The impetus behind my question is I'm interested in some pistols that aren't in .45 at all or yet and I'm impatient

I'll probably drop the .40 idea and go straight to the head banging conundrum of trying to decide whether to get another 9mm or .45 next.

I have so many "needs" I probably "need" to buy 3-4 more pistols before I've covered all my "needs"

BTW I went out and shot 250 rounds today through both my XD's. I'm getting MUCH better after reading some of the accuracy threads on this forum.

Don't laugh at this but I managed to keep about 85% of my shots at 25 yards inside an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper that I printed some targets on. Many of those shots were inside the 6" target area and a couple handfuls on or near the bullseye. This is a huge breakthrough for me being somewhat new to handgunning. Even more satisfying is that I had several hits that were 2 and 3 shot groups in a big ragged hole. At 15 yards I kept 100% of my rounds on the paper and about 40% in the 6" target area.

I'm jazzed because for free hand, this is amazing for me at this stage. This is almost better than sex and beer . . .

Nothing to laugh about, those are good shots.

What pistols are you looking at specifically btw?
