22 conversion

I know this is a trendy thing to ask, but will there ever be a 22 barrel like the jump down from .40 to 9mm?

I think the drastic difference in size might make that a more involved conversion than just the barrel. Is that true?

I'd love to be able to plink and defend with the same mechanics.

If they do come out with a 22 conversion it will be the whole slide, firing pin assembly, barrel and magazine like the Advantage Arms conversion kit for the Glock or Kimbers kit for the 1911, and not just a barrel swapout. Probably in the $250-$300 range.

There has already been a lot of discussion on this topic. Rimfire conversions for striker-fire guns are apparently quite difficult, but not altogether impossible. Rumors from the SHOT Show indicate that Springfield may be working on an XD-22 (or conversion kit), but there's no official word as of yet.
