Good gun safe or vault

I have a 5 year old and almost 3 year old boys. They will learn about gun safety now that I will have a gun in the house, but I would like a gun safe or vault to keep my XD9 in. Since it is a home protection gun I must be able to get to the gun quickly. Any suggestions? I just need one big enough for the gun.

I have a DAC sport safe.

It's a quick access safe, and it can be bolted to a stable surface to keep people from removing it.

There are several other companies that sell similar quick access safes. There are Gun Vaults, drawer type safes, and then there are basic office safes (which generally don't attract a lot of attention). Walmart Listing

If you decide to go with the office safe route don't get the regular "fireproof" (document) type. Get one of the ones that's marketed as an anti-theft safe They normally have deadbolts and either a combo dial or keypad to frustrate burglars because the fireproof document safes (they're made of some sort of insulated polymer) can be jimmied open with a pair of scissors.

once you buy a safe, you'll quickly notice that it becomes filled with more things than you anticipated, so consider buying one bigger if you can.

I have a regular 6-digit keypad safe. I don't have kids around but my gun is either in the safe or on me. I don't remove my concealed carry when I get home. That way it's there if I need it and it's in my control at all times.

I have the GunVault Multi-Deluxe next to the bed. It's a great safe, but only good for 2-3 pistols. Very easy access with the keypad. This is the cheapest online store I have found (and also where I picked mine up).......

+1...My wife bought me one for Christmas and I love it. I have it attached to a low shelf in my nightstand next to the bed. I can have my loaded XD45 in my hand in five seconds.

This gun vault has been posted on here many times before. My buddy picked up one this summer and put it in his closet. It works great and doesn't take up any floor or shelf space.
A little pricey, but I think well worth it when you are talking about kids and firearms.
Here is the company site. You can find them on ebay and craigslist if you look aroud.

I just bough a biovault 2.0 finger print safe. Here is what i thought of it
just got the biovault 2.0

I really like it because the only way to get into it is your finger print. Kids get into evrything.. if there is a key they will find it.. if they are slick enough they can find out the combo. With the biovault there is no back up key or code so there is no way for your kids or any of there friends to get into it.

All the other safes out ther have back up keys.

I ordered this one from walmart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=2221464
It seems big enough to hold a couple guns and I can mount it any place. Price is good too.
