Information to provide on CCW

I live in Alabama and in the particular county in which I'll be getting my ccw the form ask for detailed descriptions of why you are applying for a ccw.

Have any of you ever had to answer a question like this? If so, did you include for potential self-defense or stick with other answers instead?

Thanks for your response?

"Protection while traveling to and from places of business."

I think that's a perfect statement because it is accurate AND undeniably relevant because you're in danger when you do business. It's also vague enough to allow "places of business" to be interpreted as anywhere that you want to be because technically anywhere you go, you have "business" there.

What do you think? I like it

Actually, I would replace one word now that I think about it...

"Security while traveling to and from places of business."

I like that better because "protection" was too specific. "Security" can mean both protection as well as confidence to conduct your business (implying that you are afraid to do so otherwise... a valid reason to be granted a permit to begin with ). It can be taken to mean that you need the gun to conduct your daily affairs without explicitly saying that anywhere.

That's really good! Thanks for responding as that is a great way to put it. I've already put down for transporting to and from ranges and competition and was also going to put down to carry on person while hunting but was kinda left hanging on the self-defense aspect. I've never had a ccw before and I don't expect that anyone at the sheriff's office will ask too many questions...nonetheless that is a legit reason as to why I want to get my ccw for carrying and I feel like I need to list that since it ask for specifics.

Don't get me wrong that's all the reason you SHOULD need... but sometimes maybe that isn't enough because it doesn't show a need, or at least any indication of a thought process behind the decision to conceal a gun. I think they want to see that you either have a fear or a need for security, or that you at least spent time thinking about it, researching, and learning exactly what kind of responsibility it is you're getting into.

At least, it wouldn't hurt.

I don't know... that's what logic tells me anyway.

Maybe they won't care what you write.... but I'm pretty sure a cocky answer along the lines of "because I can" could raise an eyebrow.

Only reason I'm interested is because I've been seriously contemplating applying for a permit myself, and I think that same question is on there.

Those South of the border, (Ohio) have a different set of rules from us northerners. I didn't even know you have to submit a "reason". Before 2004, I had a permit and back then I had to give a reason, (late night deposits and job sites in the not-so-good part of town). After 2004 I didn't have and instead of a 2/3 page form I got to fill out 8 pages, provide a birth certificate, a dd 214, and every place I lived since I was 18. And that's not including what we get to go thru just to buy a gun.
Ain't it GREAT!!!!!!

I said "all lawful purposes" on mine. May state is semi- shall issue though.
That includes personal defense, sporting and hunting
