Pearce mag extensions on a sc9mm

I just read a review where a guy said that when he dropped a full mag on the floor, the floor plate of the magazine, a pearce extension, popped off and dumped the rounds out all over the floor. Has anyone done any practical shooting type stuff with tactical reloads and these extensions? Have any of them popped off in this manner?

pearce ext.

i havent had a pearce extension pop completely off.....although i have had one or two move just enough forward so that it will not seat and lock into the gun until you fix it. it hapened once so i bought another and tried it with that one...same thing.

bottom line IMHO is they are great for carry (where the mag is fed into the gun and one chambered (or not chambered) and no reloading is required, thats how ive found them most useful.

You normally won't be dropping full magazines during a tactical reload.

It is possible. I have seem factory baspads slip off during reloads too. It all depends on how that mag hits the ground. It if his in the right spot, they can pop off. I put the odds to have at 10000:1 or better.

I might be dropping partially loaded mags, and i don't want them to basically break when i do it.

The floorplate is released by the small pin being pushed upwards, which allows the floorplate to slide off. I guess that anything is possible. If it worrys you, I'd suggest you put a small dot of clear silicon caulking over the hole/pin to make sure it does not move. If you ever want to take the extension off, you can poke through it with a small screwdriver to push the pin, and remove it.

Wish all problems in life were this simple to fix!

I had the extension fall off my XD 9mm sub but my problem was I didn't get the pin in when I put it back together.
I did load a bunch of .40SW in my GAP magazine once, had a FTF and eject the mag. All 15 of those little sucker went flying right out of the top of the mag. All my .40SW mags are now painted bright red on the bottom, and my 9mm mags are painted puce.

I carry a XD9SC every day with the 10 round mag with a pearce extension and I've never had it even come loose.

Of course, as mentioned above, I am carrying concealed everyday and not participating in some type of competition where I'm dropping my mags on the ground all the time....
