New XD 40 owner and newbe

Well after years of being a Ruger guy..I broke down and bought a XD 40..My only concern is hearing about all the rust issues and black coming off..got to admit..just messing around a fw times.. the black has rubbed off on the ejection port.but other then that..I think I should lik eit.. any tips on what to expect..?..best gr bulletts and etc?..

Just wipe it down with Remoil or something simular after you use or handle it. Keep it dry and you shouldn't get rust. I've had XD for over 10 months and haven't had any rust. I do have holster wear but so does my CA Offduty .38 and my S&W Model 59.

Welcome to the family.

Wear marks on the barrel hood (block) and around the barrel near the muzzle end are normal -- no problem. I have had no rust anywhere after more than year and over 1000 rounds in each of my XD's, but I seldom carry.

I mainly use Winchester White Box (Wally World) and CCI Blazer (Academy) for range ammo.
