Cool

Stu,
Sorry for the late response, been out of town for awhile.

Having the thumb safety lock the grip safety seems like the easiest solution, at least from my non-gunsmith point of view. Ambi would seem easier that way as well.

Got the Springer Precision sear and trigger bar, both installed with minimal effort, gun now has nice trigger, decent pull weight, don't have trigger pull gauge, but it is not much more than my 1911's, which are both at 4 lbs, and minimal overtravel and reset.

Glock apparently approves of the Ten Ring Precision thumb safety alteration on their guns, Ten Ring's web site says that they have a letter from Glock indicating this. Springfield might be a different story, who knows.

Until then, still waiting for an industrious gunsmith to make it happen.

Thumbs up

Cleatis:

I think you're correct about the thumb safety locking the grip safety. Pretty easy to do, IMHO.... (Non-gunsmith too .)

I hear all kinds of good things about Springer's sear and trigger bar. Someday, maybe.... I don't mind what I got "stock".... It really surprised me - nothing like the ancient S&W M39, my other 9mm, but not bad....

I don't know what the magic would have to be to get Springfield to approve of the mod. It would seem possible, but Springfield is also barely willing to sell spare parts....

What bothers me about the lack of a thumb safety, besides the "training" aspect (my usual carry is a 1911), is the way that my XD hits it's usual holster. (I've got two "good" ones, but it usually lives in a cheap slide on my grubby jeans.) The slide is such that I just press someplace on the rear of the gun to push it into place. Problem is that "someplace" usually turns out to be the grip safety if I'm not paying attention.

(I'd put a decent belt on the jeans and use a better holster, but the wife is a little iffy about me carrying around the house now.)

Overall, no regrets. It shoots where I point it....

Regards,

I would personally love one in 10mm.
I know not many people like that caliber, but the Glock is my only other real choice (I know there are other 10mm manufacturers). I'd be happy with a new Glock 20, but I hate those molded finger bumps on the front strap. They never fall where my fingers want them to. For that reason, I would not want them on new XDs.

How about an option for a an extended threaded barrel (a la H&K USP) to accommodate a silencer? I have no idea if that would be some kind of engineering problem or not, but it would be a nice option.

I am very happy with mine. Maybe some different finish options/color combos would be nice, but I realize that probably wouldn't be mainstream friendly. I happen to like guns that are desert sand color or even digital camo. To be able to buy one from the factory in digital camo would be nice.
