Love the idea! Very clever.

But +1 on comment above--if the foam is rigid at all it looks like the only way to pry it out is to put your finger in the trigger guard. Sounds like a dangerous idea with the adrenaline pumping in the dark since I assume you will have a round chambered.

You are on the right track for sure & please don't take this as anything more than "just another idea" but I gave a lot of thought to the possibility of groping in the dark for a handgun. What you have done is great for everything except a condition one firearm IMO.

Here is what I came up with. When not being photographed, the xd de jour is covered by the dust ruffle. Just about any OWB holster will slip onto the bamboo mount I made. Pictured is the famous XD gear version with the 45C.

Granted, wifey was not all that thrilled with the design initially, but she got over it considering the purpose.

I'm still working on a mount for a holster that will take the XD with the light attached and an 870 express version.

Thanks for all the comments guys. As for the above concern, the foam is not very rigid at all. I can easily pull the gun from the foam without putting my finger inside the trigger guard.

Again, feel free to steal the idea/execution as that was my original intent for the thread.

EDIT: btw, I really like nickb's idea also, but my wife would throw a fit if I drilled holes into our new king size sleigh bed.

Nothing beats the little comfort knowing the fire-stick is under the pillow. Thanks to XD safety features, it is 110% safe to do so now. Try that with a BLOCK and you'd have a lot of burst mellons.

Yes...nothing like sleeping on top of a piece of metal. And nothing like scrambling around to locate your gun when you actually need it.
