Yes, hard chrome requires lube.

Ahh thanks for clearing that up. From what I understand the NP3 does not require lubrication. If that is in fact true then it would be the better choice in my situation.

I don't lube my NP3'd pistol. I have no problems, either.

Many people still do some lube. I would, just because...

I'm trying to decide which of these two finishes to do my XD9 sc.
Please help me with these questions:

For those of you that had Tripp refinish your pistol;
Did they do all metal parts, pins, mag release, slide release, breakdown lever, and grip safety included in the 'Complete polymer frame pistol including barrel' package ?

As for the Robar NP3 guys;
Did you only get the only the slide done or go for the Norton Special?
Also if the Norton was done, did they do all metal parts, pins, mag release, breakdown lever, and grip safety?

Thank you for your advice and help.

They (Tripp) did all the metal parts that you mentioned. They also hardchromed the internal parts . I think I posted some pics of that too in the link below. I decided to leave the barrel the stock blue, so mine was "complete polymer pistol, less barrel". Here's a link to pics of mine......http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47600

Here's my HS2000 with the NP3 "Norton Special":

ETA: If/when I get the money, I'm going to get the internals of my AR-15 done in NP3 (trigger group, bolt carrier, bolt). I'll probably get the externals done by Mac's Shooting Irons (you gotta love a guy who puts a link to Rosetta Stone English software on his site!).

tripps or robar

Thanks for the pics and words guys.

I'm 45 years old and trying to decide between Tripp's and Robar is one of the hardest decisions I've ever made.
Selling the Glock and buying the XD was easy, all I did was hold the XD in hand, and the decision was made.

I guess that means I've led a pretty good life if this is my biggest dilemma, huh?
Marrying my wife was an easier decision.
Actually I'm wanting her to pay for this as my Christmas present for this year.
I'm wanting to buy her a purse pistol for Christmas.

I'm leaning towards Robar NP3, always have.
But the Tripp looks nice, a bit cheaper (which really doesn't matter), and has a better turn around (but I have something else to carry while the sc is away).
I'm thinking get the Robar for the XD9 sc.
Then in a few years when the bi-tone XD9 wears, go for the Tripp's and compare them myself.
Thanks for your help and pics.
