Fact or Fiction problems with the blueing of the XD pistols

so I'm a member of a few boards and have visted a few different gun shops in my area. as a results an SA-XD sub-compact is on my list but I'm concerned about a rumour relating to the finish on the blued guns turning sorta brown and almost sorta rusting.

Is there any truth to this? Does the XD require more care then lets say my Steyr or my nitroned Sig?

Just wanted feeedback from actual owners rather than second or third hand information?

I have 2 XD's. I bought them both last Summer/Fall. I don't really take as good a care of them as I ought to. But, I do keep them fairly clean. Not one speck of rust has formed on either one of those guns. Whatever the problem was with the "Bruniral?" finish has not been a problem with my guns. Buy one, hell buy a bunch of them. They are really good guns. Very accurate, very dependable.

If you carried it daily against your sweaty flesh, then yes, it is a possibility. For the most part, the stories of XDs rusting is a wifes tale and occured on some pistols when XDs were new on the scene. My advice would be to get the bitone stubby and have no worries whatsoever.

I had originally wanted the bi-tone. Though if you see my other thread I may wind up snagging a great deal on a blued XD-SC .

Though I suppose if I ever started having a problem with the finish the easy solution would be to get it hard chromed by tripps. One of the guys on the steyr board got his S9 hard chromed from tripps and it looks incredible so that is an option.

I figured what the hey. I am getting one with a stainless slide and sending out to Sig to have their Niton finish put on it. What can I say, I am lazy about cleaning, I live in a hi-humidity coastal area, and I believe in overkill.

Since the XD wouldn't be my carry gun here's what I'd likely consider doing to it

Thanks but they're not mine I just was using that thread for explanation of the tripps hard chrome that I'm considering if I do run into problems with the blueing on the XD.

Personally I own
Sig Pro SP-2340 in .40S&W
Taurus PT-145 Pro stainless
Taurus PT-111 Pro stainless
Steyr S-9

and perhaps tomorrow a SA-XD sub-compact

I have never had problem with rust on my XD either. I do clena them every 500 rounds or so and make sure I let CLP soak in before I wipe it dry.

Seeing all those Steyr M-9 made me weep. I had one back when they first came out but was forced to trade it for a CZ-75 by my wife. She loved my CZ-75 so much that I could never get the chance to shoot it, so traded the Steyr to get her her own. Weep.

Buy yourself a new one.
They're VERY reasonable right now while CDNN has them on closeout. I got my S9 for $309 shipped with 3 mags.
The CDNN pricing on them right now is
S9 1 - 10 round mag for $269
M9 1 -10 round mag for $249
Thats a steal for something as nice as the Steyr.
