Interested in a compensator for the XD? *PICS* Plus Contest!

A design is in the works, and a prototype has been made, for a compensator that requires no barrel modification, has a unique mounting method that requires no permanent modification to the XD, would be user removeable, work on either 4 or 5 inch models. just would like to get an indication of how popular this would be with the group, and if interested, get a concensus as to were a reasonable price could be set. it would add weight to the front of the gun, reduce muzzle flip considerably, and not interfer or permanently alter any of the guns functions. i cant post any pictures at this point, nor can i elaborate quite yet on the mounting method. but let me say....it looks very sweet on the gun, is incredibly easy to both put on and remove, and from the looks of things is incredibly efficient in reducing muzzle flip.

I hate this behind the scenes wetwork. What's all that secrecy about?!

And, by compensator, do you mean... a weight?

nope it is not only a weight, it also creates a porting effect by expelling gases upward. it requires no change of barrel. when design refined, should be user installed or removed with no special tools in less than 30 minutes.

I wouldn't really call "less than 30 minutes" an "incredibly easy" install. I can completely strip and reassemble my Ruger in the same amount of time, and that's without hurrying.

Frankly, without first seeing the unit, looking over its method of attachment, and knowing the price, I wouldn't consider buying one. There's just not enough information available to make it interesting at this point in time. I felt the same way about "IT," the overhyped POS that came to be known as the Segway. As Overkill said, "I hate this behind the scenes wetwork."

Stuff like this, like most male hobbies, often depends on one thing: does it look cool? I'm skeptical how well the XD would look with a compensator, it's a bit of a busy gun already.

That said i'm a nut for compensators, i've made a few myself. I'd love to see ANY accessories out for the XD, I think everyone would. However the devil's in the details.

I told him when something is available for purchase I will buy some and gave some encouragement. Nothing super secret but is a waist of space in a thread that he needs some opiions.

I have a comp barrel for my 1911 .45s, and don't use it. I installed it after I got it and took it to the range to compare with a regular barrel. As I fired the first few rounds I noticed that there was stuff kind of drifting down from the ceiling and then realized that it was the gasses the comp was directing toward the ceiling tiles blowing them apart.

I used it a few times after that, mostly for fun, but found that it didn't really make much difference, especially with my style of shooting.

I did try it at night and found the flame disconcerting but not a real big problem.

I also found that the extra length made it a problem to draw from my carry holster.

I have it stored away somewhere, but I don't remember where.

Not interested in another.
