Info Request XD9 XD40 Trijicon® Sigths First Time Buyer.

Can someone explain the Action, safety of this handgun? From what I can gather it is DAO? It has the grip pressure safety like 1911, trigger safety (whatever that is) plus the fire pin safety only working if trigger is pulled?

I am looking to get a handgun for CCW and range shooting. Being new to handguns. Thinking maybe getting the 9MM, then move up to a .40 after gaining experience. The price is right on these handguns compared to other "reputable name brands" like HK and Sig for example I have been looking at. The HKs have tons of trigger configurations/actions though which is nice.

I really would like a HK P2000, but the price is nearly double.

Although, I have shot a USP 40 standard, and the recoil is really nothing and manageable, I really liked the handgun except the long trigger pull.

Can someone compare a XD40 to a USP .40 in terms of recoil and feel?

Only thing that would stop me from getting the .40 is if the recoil is a problem on the XD40, plus cost of ammo compared to 9MM. But apparenlty you can get a new spring and guide to help resolve the barrel rise?

I have also shot a Kimber Custom TLE 1911, recoil is really tame, but heavy gun in comparison of course and can't be practically carried. My friend also bought a Pro Carry Kimber and says recoil in that .45 is hardly different than the Custom I shot.

Also I have shot a CZ100b .40. Joke of a handgun, recoil was crazy and trigger pull was impossible it was so long, it was light and felt good in the hand and accurate though, still not worth paying money for.

I can't compare for you the USP .40 and the XD40 since I have never fired the USP, but I can tell you that the recoil on the XD40 is not bad at all. They do make aftermarket guide rods and springs that will help put some weight in the front and reduce the climb. I don't know for sure but I think Dons Guide Rods even come in Tungsten for added wieght.

I would not hesitate in going with the XD40. I own a 9mm XD and am still kicking myself for not going with the .40. I had no idea at the time, but you can always get a 9mm conversion barrel for the XD40 if you feel the recoil is too much or just to save some cash on ammo.

Ok, thanks for that...guess I should have read the manual on their website about the gun operation

Since a conversion is available, that sounds like the way to go then, .40 and can always go down to the 9mm.
