9/40/45

Who has a 9 and a 40 or 45, or any combination. Id like to know the difference in size of the grip itself between the guns. I have the 9 now, and would like to know if there is a huge difference or none at all for the grip size mostly.
Thanx guys.

If I am not mistaken, the 9 and the 40 are the same size. I think only the 45 is larger....but I might be wrong.

The 45 is slightly larger, but not much. Find a store and hold one of each. 9 & 40 are the same, so you just need to find one of those and a 45 to compare sizes.

you got it Springfield, The 9mm & the .40 S&W are the same size, The .45acp slightly wider, longer & taller grip. Most dont mind it though some on the lower end of hand size might find it less comfortable than the 9/40 size. You really have to handle one.

Edit: you beat me to it AZXD.

I have all three and this is correct. All full size XDs except the 45ACP have the same grip size. The 45ACP is slightly larger due to the longer bullet. The 9SC and the 40SD also have the same grip size.

Bigmike,

I consider myself a small-handed person....I'm a buck fifty and 5 ft 7 inches tall. I have the 9 and the .45. I eschewed the .40 in the XD, though I have a Beretta Storm in that caliber, because of the snappy recoil associated with that round. Just a personal take, nothing against the caliber itself.

On the other hand, though I really enjoy shooting the 9mm Tactical, the .45 has proved to be an extremely accurate pistol and even with the increased recoil and slightly larger grip, seems to fit my small hands even better so that the first pad of my index finger fits nearly perfectly on the trigger. In fact, I feel I have better control with the slightly larger XD with my small hands. Go figure.

Only way to see if you like is to go out and try. I am currently considering buying the big brother to the service model XD in .45 ACP.

Thanx for the comebacks. I have a xd9 service now, I use it for carry. Theres not that many places up here that carry Springfields (NYC). Everyone is a Glock nut. The Departments are all glocks or sigs or smiths, so naturally no stores stock anything else. I like my XD9, and I get multiple compliments about how comfortable the grip is. It fits my hands pretty well, better than the glock in my opinion. I have huge hands, if you down a piece of paper, my hand stretches to almost fit the page. I like the idea of 14+1 in the 45. Its not approved up here, thats the only thing.
