It might, I say MIGHT, be feasible for them to just do some sections for regions instead of individual states?

I bet you could get 1 volunteer per state to handle it.

I'm sure of it! Great Idea!

There are 11 'regional' forums there that emcompass the United States. That's plenty. It works out really well, too as folks in neighboring states can meet, buy/sell stuff, etc.

Even though there are 87 billion members at the previously mention Subaru site, I think individual state forums there would be pretty thin. XD talk is a great forum, and I now visit here more often than I do the Subie site. However, I think if you created 50 individual state forums, the majority of them would accumulate cobwebs relatively quickly. Not all, but most.

cn: Regional forums, probably good. Individual state forums, not so much.
this wouldn't really work for the purpose of what i'm talking about. having a region is ok, but each neighboring state might be different. there's no point in grouping them all together. it's either each individual state or none at all.

I would be stunned to see an attorney identify himself as an attorney and make such postings in a public forum. Most attorneys I know are not going to open themselves up to that kind of liability.

I do see where a by state forum could be useful for things like range reviews, gun shows, gun shop recommendations, etc., but that is an easy thing for me to say as someone who does not have to pay for, moderate or maintain 50 new sections on the site.
Dave, as far as laws go, i don't want to duplicate reliable resources, i want to be able to discuss state-specific legislation, ie all this stuff about different states working on the castle doctrine or how pa recently passed a law allowing ccw holders to carry a handgun during archery season when it was previously prohibited. there's plenty to talk about new laws, legislation, and what changes would be nice to see outside of discussing what the exact current laws are.

i would love to have a place were people can discuss/rate/review shops and ranges and what not. it would also allow for members from a particular state to find one another easier than they can now. i don't know if you can search for members in your state at all. if people want to make themselves available to shoot together, hunt/fish/whatever, it would be nice to have a section where people can find that information.

This is so true. As mentioned, PA-NJ, IN-IL...im sure there are alot of examples.

Playing devil's advocate for the mods....

How many people asking for more things on the board have actually bothered to become a paying members? Hosting fees, disk space, database space....none of this really free.

Flame away!

Just out of curosity what does maintaining a site like this cost? I am a mod on another (much smaller) forum, and it doesnt cost us much at all. I am not being a smart ass or anything, just curious.

i'm not a paying member for two reasons, i'm a member of a forum with nearly as many posts, when there are over 18,000 members here, a bit over 5 thousand on the other forum. there is kermee, and what 3 mods/admins here. there are 13 admins/mods there plus the ownership.

that forum does not ask for money. i'm not sure why this one does, no one has given me a good enough reason to want to pay money to browse here. also, i'm simply not interested in the perks/benefits offered for the price of the membership.

when both sites have corporate sponsors with kickbacks and what not, i just haven't been convinced to spend my money on something that i don't need.
