It might, I say MIGHT, be feasible for them to just do some sections for regions instead of individual states?

ok, break it into 4 sections and put the states in that region in that section. the problem with sections instead of individual states is i live in PA, try to write about laws and what not that i can follow in pa when new jersey is right next door.

I have seen it where individual forums are created under one more broad forum. For instance on the main forum page you could have a link or folder that said state boards and then you would click on that and it would send you to the forum with all of the states listed. Then you just click on whatever state forum you want to post in. That way it doesn't clutter up the main page.

I like the idea!

toyota tacoma off-roading association (ttora) has state forums linked to the main forum...i have no idea how they split up management, hosting, etc. but it works well!

It's a traffic thing. The Subaru forum I frequent has a gazillion members, and is usually ranked in the top 20 largest forums on the web. But instead of individual state forums, they have regional, or chapter forums. Midwest, Southeast, and Rocky Mountain are a few examples, as are Hawaii, Texas, and Alaska. There are 11 'regional' forums there that emcompass the United States. That's plenty. It works out really well, too as folks in neighboring states can meet, buy/sell stuff, etc.

Even though there are 87 billion members at the previously mention Subaru site, I think individual state forums there would be pretty thin. XD talk is a great forum, and I now visit here more often than I do the Subie site. However, I think if you created 50 individual state forums, the majority of them would accumulate cobwebs relatively quickly. Not all, but most.

cn: Regional forums, probably good. Individual state forums, not so much.

True, I've had a chance to meet a few people and find out about events in IN that I wouldn't have known about otherwise because of that.

LEOs and attorneys could also contribute to the state specific sections about their expertise.
Not really.

I use packing.org or the NRA site http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/ for that information. I don't see the need to duplicate it here. Besides, I want to know what the laws say, not what people think the laws say.

I would be stunned to see an attorney identify himself as an attorney and make such postings in a public forum. Most attorneys I know are not going to open themselves up to that kind of liability.

I do see where a by state forum could be useful for things like range reviews, gun shows, gun shop recommendations, etc., but that is an easy thing for me to say as someone who does not have to pay for, moderate or maintain 50 new sections on the site.
