Filling out the XD form to send to Springfield Armory
I've had my XD for over a month now. One of the papers inside the gun case is a card. One half says "Limited Lifetime Warranty" and the other half says "Complete and Mail Today", which has you put down the serial number, your address, and a little about yourself. Do I need to complete that "Complete and Mail Today" form in order to have a valid warranty? Do they use that form to register your gun? I might be a little ignorant but I hear some people saying there shouldn't be gun registration because it leads to confiscation and in the past when one country takes over another, they always looked at gun registration to find out who they had to go after. Does that apply to the "Complete and Mail Today" form, or is that something completely different? I just feel a little hestitant, but want to make sure my warranty is valid.

As long as you have your "Proof of Purchase," you should be good to go.
IMO, all of the hype about the confisaction of firearms is a bit over-rated, |

If you register your weapon with SA and there is a recall or other information for you gun, they will know how to contact you...
They are not going to turn you in to the gun police!!!!!

warranty
When I bought my XD new, the guy at the gun store could not find the manual & warranty card that should come with it. (I think they gave it to someone else.) He was kind of an airhead and looked all over the store but couldn't find one. Well, I bought it anyway and called Springfield when I got home. The lady there told me they would ship me a manual (they did) but do not ship blank warranty cards. She said the gun still has a lifetime warranty even if you don't send in the card but you must have a bill of sale that has the serial number. I checked again recently with SA about installing the TFO sights on my gun. They say they will warranty the work on the sights but not the sights themselves if they do the work.
Any aftermarket mods are not warrantied unless SA does the work is what I was told. Hope this helps.

Yikes! Who's telling you that? I simply mailed my card as SA requested.

For example, I see in a lot of other firearm forums where they point out news stories where restraining orders are handed out like candy and then local law enforcement confiscates the person's guns (or else they'd be in contempt), without any evidence other than someone's complaint or "I'm afraid of this person." If the restraining order is dropped later on, often the person may not get their guns back, or it may be a very difficult and timely process; so much for innocent until proven guilty. If law enforcement isn't aware of who has firearms, wouldn't it be more difficult for them to make gun confiscations that have no ground?

I've never heard of such cases, but I don't think that the police are going to go to each individual gun manufacturer to see if you have any weapons registered with that specific company. Relax bro...warrenty your gun and be done with it.
