XD9SC Indicator Pin
Guys,
New to the site and handguns. I am definitely a newbie, so forgive me in advance.....I was out today and went through 50 rounds with my XD-9 and I completed the round in the mag, the slide came back and the safety pin was out. I then reloaded and it would not fire.....I dropped the mag and ejected the chambered round, dry-fired, placed the mag back, slide back and then was good to go. I did this for the remaining rounds. I'm I missing something, I don't recall doing this the first time I shot with this gun.

Which pin? When you say it would not fire, did you get a click when you pulled the trigger, if not did you check to make sure the slide was in battery?
The chambered round you ejected did the primer have a dimple on it?

Safety Indicator Pin. When I emptied the first round it was sticking out. I reloaded the second time, it was out, indicating it was ready to fire, pulled trigger and click, nothing. I did not look at the round, should've I guess. I guess I am under the impression that it should not be ready to fire AFTER I've expended the round in the magazine....remember, newbie. Also, nor sure what you mean by "...slide was in battery"?

It means was the slide fully forward. If the bullet didn't feed correctly and the slide was slightly open the gun will not fire. Does your gun have a trigger job?

did you have the breakdown lever up?? if it was up then the pin would be sticking out after you fire but would not fire the next round, then when you were physically chambering the round you cocked again and were able to fire another round. make sure you read your manual before you go shoot again
