Question Carry Condition

Now before you you get all huffed up, this isn't about the safety issue of condition 1 but rather the mechanical issue.
I have read thru the masses of posts about C1 carry but haven't seen this discussed.
With a round in the chamber and the hammer cocked, what is going to happen to the spring tension after a period of time?
I have read where they say that that the mag spring is only stressed from loading and unloading but can't find an opinion (and I know what they say about opinions) on the fatigue on hammer ,sear and main springs.

The proper grade of steel, properly heat treated, and then stored stressed (compressed) will NOT have an issue if left in that condition for many many years.

Having said all that, YMMV depending on whether the part was properly designed and manufactured. <- My guess is that the parts in an XD are properly made.

I never saw a gun get worn out from sitting around loaded.

Springs wear out from being exercised, not sitting under tension. If its a worry, they can easily be replaced every so often.

There should be no problem with any of the the springs sitting compressed -- in the C1 condition -- over an extended period of time. However, I would expect periodic inspection and cleaning would prevent this "time period" from being absurdly long. IMHO, we shouldn't be talking years.

Yeah... the springs are made so that under normal operation theyre not pushed past theyre bending deformation point... or metal memory... i guess you'd call it... now... if you abused the springs such as twisting or stretching them past normal use after disassembily that would be a different thing...

Spring fatigue is induced the same way, due to cycling. Now, the "hammer" spring and the "main" spring are the same spring; so we're concerned with one less. The sear spring is a leaf spring and is always taking some load but they last forever.

How about this. If springs collapsed due to carrying a constant load, wouldn't your car be flat on the ground now?

You apparently did NOT search through the forums, because I specifically remember this exact question being asked this month.
