grip safety

Last week I asked a question about a used gun with the grip safety removed. The previous owner removed it and used epoxy to seal the void. After asking you guys what you thought I passed the gun up and got my money back. I ended up getting an xd9 sc instead and I cant wait to shoot it! Anyway I was still curious about the other gun and ended up taking my sc apart and seeing how the guy had to rig the gun for it to work without the safety. Turns out that if you pull the grip safety out then reinstall the slide the gun seems to cock and dry fire just fine. No need to rig no need for anything. It just seems to work with it removed. Am I missing something? Did this guy literally just remove the safety and fill away? Seems like a dremel to remove the epoxy and the part would make the gun 100% again. I dont know. Just had to share what I found. I thought it was a little more substantial than that. Oh well... I got a nice gun so I'm not complaining.

You were smart to cancel that deal; don't second guess yourself.
Anyone goofy enough to make that change when all they had to do was use a stout rubberband on the grip to continually depress the grip safety might have done all kinds of goofy and crappy home-brew mods to the gun.

that bike tire grip or hogue grip can sit right over top of the safety too, and look nicer while actually providing a benefit.

I think the replies you got before were not necessarily about how removing the safety would fudge the whole gun. More so the fact that anyone that would do that in the first place may have gone further with other "mods" on the gun. Now these mods may not have necessarily made it unsafe, but they could have possibly removed enough material from a certain part that after another 100 rounds it passed the stress point, broke and made your gun a paper weight. That being said, I retract my earlier statement. If it does not perform when needed, that makes it unsafe also.

Yep most of us were concerned about 'what else' was done.

besides, the XD subbie is a great gun, and you gain no extra accuracy from the service length barrel, so may as well keep it compact, with the option for 16rd mags with the grip sleeve.

The only negative to using the 16-round mags w/ extender for the sub-compact is the magazine doesn't always fall away easily because your hand is gripping it.

I carry the sub w/ the 10 round mags because the grip is way shorter and easier to hide, but this one problem affected me in shoots and classes.

So, I bought the .40 which has 12 rounds in the fullsize grip and I can reload them down to reduce the recoil. I could always put the 9mm conversion barrel in it, too.

I rented the 4" 9mm and in fact it wasn't more accurate than the 3" which is why I got the .40.
