What do yall think of using a xd9sc as a purse gun?
I work in a hotel in a particularly bad part of town.
I'm also 6'2" and with a heavy enough build that noone messes with me. My coworkers are not. One of my coworkers, a sweet young thing, has moved here recently from NoYouCan'tVille. As there was a pretty severe incident at the hotel this evening (Local drunken idiot standing at the counter calling my coworkers out to fight) I got to thinking about her short trek from the front doors to her car. In AkAk land all you need to procure a firearm is a clean record, the $, a local driver's liscence, and 15 minutes of time. She was surprised and amazed at this, as where she is from she is required to get a permit directly from the police department, and go through acres of rigamarole. She asked if she would get in trouble bringing a firearm to work. I replied with the very simple "What they don't know won't hurt them." Besides, it is unlikely in alaska to get fired for taking one's personal protection into your own hands. (I like that aspect of this state a lot.) So would an xd subcompact work well in a purse? is there something else I should be pointing her to? |

it honestly depends on the size of her purse. I have seen some purses that could EASILY hold a TACTICAL XD. The best thing for her to do is simply to look around and see what she is comfortable carrying in her purse....ya know?

i was looking at a purse for my wife that has a pocket specifically made to carry a firearm. the pocket is located on the outside so that you don't have to dig through all your stuff to get to it.
i think the lady that was showing it to my wife said she sometimes has a .38 special revolver and other times a semi auto by kahr. |

i think the CW9 is the next size up and it would probably be the better size, not sure they make a steel version of it, but they're also cheaper than the PM/MK9 because it's just a plain jane firearm, no fancy slide cuts or engravings, just an all business firearm in a small package. i've seen very good looking mushrooming hollow points from Speer's GoldDots from a 9mm, as in actually bullets fired into the chest of road killed deer from 3 feet. the mushrooms are text book. |

The real solution is to get a bigger purse and put a .44 Magnum in it. . . . that way you can deafen the bad guys to death.

I don't like the idea of purse carry. It's too easy to not having your gun close at hand. The BG just needs to grab the purse and she won't be able to hold the purse and try to get the gun at the same time.
My wife has a fanny pack or uses a holster. This way her gun is on her at all times and can get to it if someone grabs her purse.

A purse should be fine as long as it's always kept close at hand otherwise look into some other form of carry.
She could always carry a kel-tec in a pocket or something.

I think a purse would be fine. She can casually have her hand in her purse while she walks to her car at night.
My vote is for a ladysmith.

If she is new to handguns I would also consider a small frame revolver in .38 w/ +p ammo. A good purse gun with a concealed or enclosed hammer type revolver. S&W makes several just for women like the S&W 642LS.
