Polishing Ramp - Which Part?
When everyone is talking about polishing the ramp, is it the large ramp integral to the barrel, or the small ramp section of the block attached to the frame?

The Barrell! Take a soft Part of a t shirt About 1 inch wide & 2 inches long. Get a drill with a 3/16 drill in the drill and rap the soft cloth ENTIRELY aroun the drill. Use it as fast as the drill will go . Don't put a lot of pressure on it at all., let the weight of the drill rest on the ramp , move it at the same angle as the ramp in & out. The object is to make it slick as glass without taking out material OR as least as possible . If possible put the barrell in a vise. USE A RAG TO PROTECT THE BARRELS FINISH ON THE OUTSIDE OF IT. TAKE YOUR TIME THIS IS NOT HARD TO DO!

I've already polished the barrel part with my dremel and a small felt polishing "drum" bit. I was wondering about the melonited "entry" ramp on the frame?

I have no idea how many it took to get it to the mirror polish it has today. It's a slow process, so I didn't ever really notice anything happening. It's the whole frogs in boiling water thing... anyway, I've got thousands upon thousands of rounds through my XD40, so you can say it took more than I'd guess 500 rounds, but less than 2000 |

One of the nice surprises on my XD was the fact the ramp came perfectly polished and rounded going into the bore. I looked at it and decided that SA had done as good a job as was called for.
